EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — The 2011 Associated Press Division 1-2 All-State team has nine players who were selected unanimously and four others who received nine of a possible 10 first-place votes.
Selecting a Player of the Year from these outstanding candidates was not clear-cut, but the player selected had a tremendous season on offense and defense.
Prescott Line of Oxford edged out other top candidates, including a number of players who have accepted scholarship offers from Michigan and Michigan State.
Line is a 6-1, 205-pound running back who also started at linebacker for coach Bud Rowley. Line, who committed to Southern Methodist, is a four-year varsity player who took on a big load for his team this season.
"We lost our quarterback (week three), and we had to go with a freshman," Rowley said. "That limited our play-calling. We lost our fullback the second week and had to move a nose guard to fullback. A normal fullback would have carried eight to 10 times a game. That would have put Prescott down to fewer than 30 carries a game. Everybody bought into it. We didn't give Prescott much of a rest, ever. When the game was on the line, he might have had five or six plays off the entire game."
Oxford finished 7-3, a marked improvement over last season's 3-6 mark. Line led the Wildcats to the Division 2 playoffs by rushing for 2,454 yards and 38 touchdowns on 364 carries. He had 159 tackles on defense.

Awesome news. I know he is still listed as a linebacker, but I am really hoping he ends up playing RB for us. He put up some stupid numbers this year and has obviously garnered some serious attention from around the state.
Looking forward to seeing Prescott in a Mustang uniform

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Â
Oxford’s Prescott Line Wins 2011 MetroPCS Mr. Football Award
Â
December 13, 2011
Â
Oxford senior running back Prescott Line claimed over 102,000 votes online, besting Lowell’s Gabe Dean, Orchard Lake St. Mary’s James Ross and Lansing Catholic’s Cooper Rush on his way to the award for the state’s top prep football player sponsored by MetroPCS and “State Champs†High School Sports Show.
Â
A panel of writers and judges take into account not only online voting results (20%), but also performance throughout the season (30%), level of competition (20%), big game performance (15%), team success (10%), and being a highly recruited athlete (5%).
Â
Prescott helped lead the Wildcats to a 7-3 record and a second place finish in the Oakland Activities Association (OAA) White Division. Line finished the season with a school and league record 2,454 rushing yards, 37 rushing touchdowns and one 2-point conversion. At the linebacker position, Prescott recorded 149 tackles including 67 solo tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 4 sacks, 4 forced fumbles and 2 interceptions – one of which was returned for a touchdown and 2 blocked extra points.  He was named to the 2011 Detroit News and Detroit Free Press Football “Dream Team†for his defensive exploits.
Â
The first-team, unanimous all-OAA selection also earned honors as the Division 1 & 2 Michigan player of the year and was named to the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association (MHSFCA) All-State first team.
Â
The 6-1, 220 pound Line has verbally committed to Southern Methodist University where brother Zach has earned all-Conference USA honors as a running back. Line is also a candidate for the Detroit Athletic Club’s 2011 Michigan High School Athlete of the Year Award.
