Lucky Delay

From Rivals:
Could SMU be adding a little luck to its lineup? That’s possible after an impressive official visit this past weekend for Lucky Delay of Irving (Texas) MacArthur.

“I’m thinking about committing,” Delay, a two-star strongside defensive end, said. “I just really liked all the coaches, the players and I loved the campus. It was incredible.”

When asked to rate his official visit on a scale from one to 10, DeLay gave the visit a nine and a half.

“It’s a school that’s also really close to home,” he said. “I’m going to let this sink in a little bit. I might go ahead and commit, but I do have some other options to think about.”

Other options like scholarship offers from Oklahoma State and West Virginia and heavy interest from Memphis, Arkansas and Louisiana Tech.

I've seen him listed at 6-4, 255. Most reports I've seen say he's getting interest from Arkansas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma and Memphis.

That's good size. Put him on the end opposite Desmond Jones, and suddenly we have some stout defensive ends!

Any idea how fast DeLay is?

If he comes to SMU, and is as big and fast as that, how about bumping Desmond Jones inside to DT or NG? Don Ieremia-Stansbury is going to be locked in at one DE spot for a couple more years, and Desmond Jones is supposed to be a cat-quick, high-motor kind of guy. If he can put on a few more pounds, he might be able to play inside, kind of like Tank What'sHisName who Coach Bennett made into a star at K-State. Could Jones go inside and become a poor man's John Randle/Warren Sapp?

Ieremia-Stansbury, Adami, Jones and Delay - I like the look of that line.

Sure hope Coach Bennett gets Lucky.
(sorry - that was too easy to pass up)

Have we ever considered going to a 3-4 since we seem to have an undersupply of D linemen an an abundance of LBs? I'm not trying to play coach. I'm just wondering if this has been considered.

DMN says DeLay is joining Zach Hall at SMU. The future keeps looking brighter and brighter for the Mustangs. Maybe these guys can help us reel in some more help at LB and on the DL.

I like the way this class is shaping up. A guy who is 6-4 240 now may turn out to be a 6-4 280 DE. That would be nice. There are several d-1 players every year from Irving, MacArthur and Nimitz. Glad to see we are tapping into it.

Great news on Delay and Jones adding to the list. With no players to loose next year at D-line the team could be done at the positions. With Adami, Stansbury,Justin Rogers,Denman, Karrington, Williams, Walker and maybe Darrin Johnson, all in place and improving SMU may be set for several years.

Weren't some people saying Cole Horton was going to add weight and move to DE also?

COngratulations on getting Delay. A DE with size and speed is always a good sign.

I'm a fan of Melvin Williams and Don Ieremia-Stansbury, but I can't wait to see Desmond Jones and Lucky DeLay line up at defensive end. That's more size and strength than we've had on the ends in a long time.

This recruiting class just keeps getting better. If we can land Gatewood, then I'm going to have to fly back for a game or two Image

Giles wasn't recruiting Gatewood, was he?
I agree, Gatewood could make this class exceptional.
