For those of you who do not know Gatewood is the 6'2'' 190lb all everything wideout from Chapel Hill. Was committed to the aggies but when we talked yesterday he said he was decommitting and his vists are set for LSU, Oklahoma, Texas, And SMU

This board dies completely after 8pm Image hopefully he likes SMU, as I said...Tyrell is an amazing player and would really give us some presence at the WR spot that we've been lacking in recent years.

now this is encouraging news. I've always felt the players can be our best recruiters and the better players we attract, the more likely other top guys will follow.

The goal of any mid-major school is to crash the BCS party. Can you imagine the national attention that will come to the 1st school to accomplish that? America loves Cinderella. It's going to take a lot of quality guys stepping up to say "we can do it here". For those who would discourage anyone from playing in the WAC, ask David Carr if it hurt his career?

Go get him, SMU Commit!

That would be a terrific pickup, and would deepen the roots the Bennett regime is planting in East Texas.
Do you know which weekend he and Meeks are coming?

I know they're at different schools, but are Gatewood and Bryan Turner friends? Maybe we can get Meeks and Turner to gang up on him and help him understand the wisdom of choosing SMU!

Adding Gatewood and William Dowdy would give the Ponies a lot more options in the passing game. Go get 'em!

I know for a fact meeks, turner, and gatewood are really good friends, they talk all the time. My bet is they are doing there best to pull gatewood to smu, but they all go back to the roots at chapel hill. From what i know we have a good shot at him.

we are going to do every thing we can to get him here. I know for a fact that Gatewood will be much more comfortable with so guys he has known for a while. this may play to our advantage.

The word out here is that Gatewood's interest in SMU is very serious. He hasn't decided to come to SMU, yet, but it's a better chance than a lot of people think.

Tyrell Gatewood is everything people have been saying. He's tall, strong and fast. He has excellent hands, runs very precise routes and uses his strength well to fight off physical defenders. Most analysts, myself included, have him in the top 5 wide receivers in Texas. What makes him special is the way he can realize what a defense is trying to do to contain him and make the adjustment to compensate. If a defense tries to jam him at the line, he can bust through most defenders, at least at the HS level, and separate for the reception. If a cornerback stays way off him, to compensate for his speed, he can break off a route early for an easy reception. He's a very smart player and extremely dangerous after the reception. As of last night, I had heard he was still committed to A&M, but that he is willing to listen to other schools that want to make a pitch. He's in a prime position, because he can accept the Aggies' scholarship offer, or he can listen to coaches from other schools whose offense might better feature the passing game. SMU's chance to get him is hard to read at this stage, but landing him would be a major accomplishment for Coach Bennett and his coaching/recruiting staff.
