How do you think this will affect recruiting? I know a lot of his recruits particularly liked him a lot. Does anyone know if he was forced out or he just wanted to be closer to Houston?

I have no clue as to why he is leaving, but I'm disappointed...I really like Oscar and hate to see him go. I wish him the best at Houston.
Perhaps now would be a good time for Bennett to talk to Charlie Waters...hmmmm.

Now let's not start the Charlie Waters talk again. Do you really think that after the way he campaigned for the head job, that he'd really come in as a position coach? Neither do I. We need another young, energetic coach who has a proven track record of recruiting in Texas, preferably someone who, like Bennett and his staff, knows a lot of Texas HS coaches.

Waters would like to get back into coaching and expressly in the Dallas area. Would he only consider a head coaching position??...I don't know. We have a full compliment of coaches with high school recruiting ties....what we could use is a good defensive coach to replace Giles. Why not Waters if he would be interested?

Could Waters even coach defensive linemen?

Unfortunately, no matter how much CW would like to coach football here in Dallas, offering him an assistant (presumably, coordinator level) position at SMU would almost be insulting... especially in light of the fact that (1) his interest in the "head job" here was ignored; (2) he held similar positions at the NFL level and had success there; and (3) Bennett is a defensive guru and probably wouldn't want to create the chance of a Buddy Ryan-type authority struggle.

If we're going to talk former local pro athletes returning as coaches, how about Derek Harper or Brad Davis at Moody?
Just a thought...
