Great news! You know when we are getting players to decommit from BIg 12 schools that things are looking up. OSU reaction ranges from disbelief to the expected we didn't want him anyway garbage. It is mentioned on their boards that he also plays TE. Is he purely an OLB prospect for SMU or will he also be given a look at TE?

That is a huge pickup for the Ponies. He looks small, but watch him play, and you realize he's in on every play. He's one of those kids who not only is super-fast, he also never seems to get tired. He can go and go and go.

As for playing more than one position, I would think it's more likely he could play safety than tight end. But that's just my guess.

I got on an Oklahoma State message board and asked for their insight about Cory Muse. One of the moderators of their board responded, and here's what he had to say:

Cory Muse was recruited by OSU as a Linebacker. OSU's TE's are usually around 6'5" and 250... Muse is about 6'2" 205.

The problem he was facing at OSU was that as a linebacker... all of our current linebackers are freshmen or sophmores.. and with the (DeSoto LB Victor) DeGrate verbal, Cory's chace of playing time anytime soon was slim to none. Especially considering he needs to put on some weight for linebacker.

SMU is probably a better fit for him. He runs a 4.6 40 and could start off as a heavy-hitting safety, then maybe move up to linebacker as he puts on the pounds. As a TE, I think he's a good pass catcher, but I'm not so sure about his blocking skills.. so he's probably destined for the defensive side of the ball either way.

Overall he's a good, athletic player that should fit in at SMU well. This was probably a good move and everyone involved will come out ahead. Good luck to Cory!

I hear Cory is visiting that 2nd weekend in January. Hope that visit solidifies his decision...and that we pull in a few others who are considering SMU and will be visiting that same weekend.

On 22 December, Muse was named to the Daily Oklahoman "Super 25" All State Team as a TE.

Muse HS, Oklahoma Class 2A Millwood, has won three State Championships in a row. Millwood players, notably the Woods brothers including QB Donovan Woods this year, have often attended OSU.

Its a coop if SMU holds Muse.

I found this on an Oklahoma State message board. Here's an Okie's view of Cory Muse:

"The problem he was facing at OSU was that as a linebacker... all of our current linebackers are freshmen or sophmores.. and with the DeGrate verbal, Cory's chace of playing time anytime soon was slim to none. Especially considering he needs to put on some weight for linebacker.

That's pretty big of the OSU fan to wish him well, rather than whining about losing him or suddenly pulling a Frog and claiming they didn't want him in the first place. OSU always has had good fans.
