The Good and The Bad

...so far Massey has gotten only a few snaps that I've seen. But they were glowing about his incredible strength and Trev Alberts was highly complimentary of Phil Bennett, but Mark May in a discussion of the wild and wooly days of recruiting when Alberts and May were recruited related a story about when may visited SMU Ron Meyer showed up at the airport in Big Red Convertible Cadillac with Longhorns on the bumper and how his Dad said he couldn't go there because of it. Massey although in the 5-10 to 5-11 range and reportedly weighing 220 pounds does not look like a plodder. He seems to carry that weight well. Despite the Rivals report Alberts said that he chose SMU over UT and many others because he wanted early playing time. Unfortunately, 2 of the nations best RBs that UT was after were Reggie Bush who committed to USC tonite and Lendale White who also committed this afternoon to USC. Maybe White will reconsider now that Bush-a stud- has committed to USC. Wow USC might be tough for the next few years. If Massey goes to UT he's not likely to even get a shot at hitting the field for at least 2 years since Benson will be only a junior next year and Selvin Young one of the top runningbacks in the nation was sensational in limited playing time for UT this year. Also UT already has a commitment from top Texas runningback Eric Hardeman. But go to the House of Speed link reposted today and compare Hardeman to Massey-as I remember Massey [deleted] away in almost every category.

I saw the game, and I couldn't believe Mark May. He had to bring up recruiting from his day? It's a different school now, and a different recruiting world. That was totally bush league by a guy who I normally think is a fantastic and fair announcer. But that was a totally uncalled-for shot by May.

Didn't May play for Pittsburgh in that Cotton Bowl where we beat them? Or did he graduate before that?

He did play for Pitt before going to the Redskins, but I'm not sure when he played there. He said last night that he was hosted by Tony Dorsett on his recruiting visit, and that he and Hugh Green were in the same class. What a recruiting class!

My recollection that Russ Grimm was in the same class at Pitt and was also selected by the Redskins. Add in Joe Jacoby from Louisville in the 6th round, and that was one hell of a draft.

I thought Grimm was a Penn State guy.
Either way, that's an amazing draft for o-linemen.
