Strike 3 for UT

....UT lost out on 3 of the Top Players in the nation today alone when QB C.J. Leak, RB Reggie Bush and RB Lendale White committed elsewhere. In the U.S. Army All-Star game tonite Bush and Leak showed awesome ability. This ain't good news for SMU as that opens up spots for Tyrell Gatewood and Richuel Massey. On the other hand its been about 15 years since SMU was in a recruiting battle with UT so I guess that's progress to be in on kids that the big boys want.

Massey was quoted when he commited as having been impressed that Bennett/SMU had made him a high priority in recruiting, whereas the offer from Texas (if it comes) will be based on building depth in their RB stable. Let's hope Massey wants to play early in his career and be a difference maker at a mid-major program. Ask David Carr or LaDanian Tomlinson if playing in the WAC hurt their chances of playing professionally.

Those recruits that Texas lost could have gone to any school. UT is not the only school in the country. USC in many people's eyes had the # 1 team in the country at the end of the bowls, not Ohio State. Recruits may finally be seeing that Mac Brown is not going to coach UT to a National Championship. He can have a top 5 class every year and it's not going to happen. He is a good recruiter but a poor game day coach.

I'm with Charleston in that it's nice to be competing with Texas for some top recruits. And I hope Massey realizes that if he goes to UT, it might be years before he sees the field.
Wasn't he quoted as saying he's coming to SMU and plans to play next year? He sounds like an extremely confident young man, and will do extremely well at SMU.
Did he even touch the ball last night in that all-star game? I heard the announcers say something about "this is the kind of guy Phil Bennett needs at SMU" but the phone rang and I had to turn down the volume. What else did they say about him?

Think the UT faithful are irate over those guys making their announcements on national TV and NOT choosing to go to Austin? A little humble pie will be good for those guys.

We give the UT boys a little too much credit. They are cocky about everything, so who knows about Massey. Personally, I think we are underestimating. He's simply pursuing his options. He's a smart guy and understand the game of college. He'll come to SMU and perhaps play immediately or start as a sophomore. We all forget about ShanD

Good point - Coach Bennett can get it done and keep this man in the fold. After all, when Cavan got canned last year, Darrin Johnson switched his commitment to A&M. Bennett got him back.
We haven't lost Massey yet. Let's assume Bennett keeps him until we learn otherwise.
