The top-rated QB in the state (and Texas' all-time leading passer) withdrew his offer from A&M and is now considering Iowa, Baylor (hack), Houston (barf) and Hawaii (last thing we need is another Timmy Chang).
He a bit short a scrawny at 6' 160 lbs., but he did throw for over 12,000 yds. in high school.
Might be worth looking in to, although I think we're pretty set at QB for this year.

With all due respect to Tate and the frequent flyer miles he put up in south Texas, I think Meeks and Phillips are much better prepared to come in and run the SMU offense. Coach Bennett wants a QB who can run, and while Tate might have great passing numbers, Phillips and Meeks appear to be bigger and better all-around athletes.

But you're right, I don't want the Ponies to have to defend that guy. Hope he picks Iowa.

I think he runs a 4.5-ish, so I guess he can move. But yes, I'd rather have a 200-pounder like Meeks is and Philips will be.

Just a hunch but I think he'll wind up at Houston.

Forgot to mention... Tate was also QB for SMU commit Jaymond Cleveland.

I've also heard Houston is a possible destination, because new coach Art Briles is going to install his pass-happy Stephenville HS offense down there.

Then maybe he should sign an ex-Stephenville HS QB. Isn't there one to be had cheap down Florida way?

Iowa's head coach interviewed recently for the Jacksonville Jaguars' job, according to ESPN. Would that have any impact on Tate's decision?

According to FansOnly.com: Super Prospect quarterback Drew Tate of Baytown-Lee, Tex., committed to the Iowa Hawkeyes. Tate, who decommitted from Texas A&M following the coaching change, also considered Houston, Baylor, Syracuse and Hawaii. During his four-year varsity career, he completed 970 of 1,576 attempts for 12,183 yards and 113 touchdowns.
