I can understand the tongue-in-cheek humor/sarcasm directed at the coaching staff about competing with "lesser" schools for recruits, especially in the wake of the ASU fiasco. But at the same time, what's a recruit to think when he reads this? That we don't want him? Not sure if this motivates or sours a recruit or his family, but it's not a positive read from their perspective. I'm not a sunshiner, but should we be targeting specific recruits in our posts or is it more appropriate to belly-ache generally?

I"ll tell you how he can address the issue-hire some Coaches that know what they are doing on the Texas recruiting trail. But guess what instead in a couple of days he is going to announce that he has hired one of his Buddies that is eligible for Social Security. As long as June Jones doesn't address the systematiic problem with this coaching staff-criticism will continue because we are now in the 2013 recruiting season no better positioned than last year. In 3 months about 60% of the Top Texas recruits will be committed and many others will be narrowing their options.

I'm all for directing valid criticism at staff. Most of what we've said here on PF is justified. I just hate it when we take aim at specific recruits. My son is a Jr. O-lineman and I'd hate to see this stuff directed at him (theoretically speaking, of course). I guess I'm so close to HS football that I'm being protective. These kids know that they're not 5 stars. They don't need to be derided by us because they aren't.

That's fair birdogger. But, by the same token, we should expect to be getting top quality recruits. SMU has a lot to offer and the fact that we are not improving our recruiting class y-o-y is not acceptable. We should support the current football players but strive to improve our football team each and every chance we get, and that starts with recruiting and bringing in good football coaches. We expect better than the recruiting results we've had over the last 2 months.

I gotcha birddogger. I do think Ty Law be a good player for SMU. Again, it was as you said tongue and cheek. I do like the concept of Shaft, Law, and Justice in the secondary.

I would hope that they're smart enough to know that fans want to be impressed, when you have high expectations it's just not very impressive when your school has to beat out Hillbilly State and Bloated Rural U for recruits. They really shouldn't take any of it personally, fans tend to be fickle, if they perform well the fanfare will come.

Fair statement.

True, and 3 months is not a long period of time.

Hey - BD. IMO the derision is not at the specific player but at the fact that we need 4* and 5* recruits and JJ doesn't care to work at getting them. I suspect it is more frustration at the coaching staff than any thing else.

GO PONIES!!!

That would be correct.

+1. I want Law to sign with us. I think he's another one of those under-the-radar recruits, but we can't fill a team with these for multiple reasons. We need to strive higher and stay aggressive for the top recruits, in and around Texas.
