I knew it was coming. He did so either today or yesterday, so our chances as you can see were really slim. I think we did a good job though trying.

In a couple of years we'll go to Austin and make Gatewood sorry he ever heard of the Texas Longhorns...I can't wait for that day.

Read what you've just posted dude. We'd have to put some stellar classes together to be able to compete with the likes of Texas. I wouldn't jump to any false conclusions based on one recruiting class. Its a GOOD borderline GREAT class which is a miracle to all of us SMU faithful. If we go 7-5 or 8-4 next year...then watch out...we could be in for something BIG

BTW MustangKurt- Fresno unlike most of the Western WAC signs only a handful of JUCO players. Their ranking will be deceptive because I'm sure they will eventually accept their usual 8 or so non-qualifiers(they had 23 this year) and another good bunch of partial qualifiers. These guys might not show up on their recruiting lists until fall after the rankings because they will be madly trying to get their academics in order. Then because most BCS schools accept no partial qualifiers or non-qualifiers-or that number is srictly limited by conference rule to 2 or 3-these kids will gravitate toward one of the few options they have-Fresno St. Then in about 3 years alot of unknowledgeable fans will wonder how Fresno st got so good with poorly ranked recruiting classes. Well that "shortcut" is how. I also read that La Tech took as many as 8 non-qualifiers last year but since they are not under the national microscope no body will pay attention.

So what happens when the new NCAA rules are written that benefit grad rates and punish low grad rates? It seems Fresno's technique has a limited time frame for success.

I am 100% in favor of those rules and 100% sure that they will never be implemented. If they were, the history of the NCAA shows that they would be implemented over a 4-5 year period allowing Schools to adjust to the new rules.

I think you are correct about the 8 non qualifiers Tech took last year, Stallion. This year, by all reports, the number will be zero. Congratulations to the Ponies on an outstanding recruiting class thus far. The WAC, especially those of us in the eastern half, need SMU to become strong again in football.

Just wanted to say thanks to all the non-Mustang ponyfan members. There have been a lot of posts form TCU, LA Tech and other competitors recently, and I for one have been blown away by their graciousness and good sportsmanship.

I talk a lot a smack (without basis) about our rivals, so I'm a bit shamed to have competitors who have successful programs coming in to wish us well, and who often seem nearly as excited as we are about our improvements.

So there it is... I had to say it... and now back to Froggie, Raider, Rainbow Warrior and Bulldog bashing!
