Avery Cleveland: not committedUh-oh, this was just posted on rivals:
Austin LBJ linebacker Avery Cleveland was all set to commit to SMU on an in-home visit on Tuesday night. Small problem - things didn't go as planned. "I ended up having a lot of questions," Cleveland, a 6-foot-3, 250-pound linebacker, said. "And I also talked to TCU, and I've decided to go ahead and visit there now this weekend." So Cleveland isn't committed to SMU? "Right," he said. "It's still possible, but I'm going to check things out at TCU."
Re: Avery Cleveland: not committedJeez, this would really hail on our parade... what could he have possibly heard that would make him decide to visit TCU?

Re: Avery Cleveland: not committedhe's 18 years old. Hold on boys this is when it gets interesting. I'm sure Bennett's trying to steal some of TCU's recruits too-isn't this fun!

Re: Avery Cleveland: not committedBAD Avery!!
Re: Avery Cleveland: not committedI heard the other day that he had not told our coaches he was committed yet so this is not a total surprise. When we compete with these top level kids, many of them are going to be in play until they sign so put on your seat belts as the next few weeks are going to show a bunch of thrills and disappointments.
Re: Avery Cleveland: not committedI agree with Stallion that this time of year is infinitely interesting. But losing out on Avery Cleveland, especially to TCU, would only be palatable depending on who we steal from them.
Re: Avery Cleveland: not committedWell that just sucks. Shows how much we actually know!

Re: Avery Cleveland: not committedFunny how the TCU fans claimed that "They didn't want any of our recruits" and that they had no interest in the players that we were recruiting.
Now on the FFF, they seem to have changed their mind about our guys. Believe me - it is a good sign that TCU is taking such an interest in our recruiting class - they are starting to get scared . . . that possibly - our class might look better than those whome they have collected. After Cleveland sees the TCU "compound" and the aging ugliness of Amon Carter, I am sure that he will change his mind and head back to the beauty of the Hilltop. "Moral Victories Make Me Sick" - TR

Re: Avery Cleveland: not committedhe is far from gone - the tcu vs smu thing is already at a completely different level then last year - its easy to see the momentum swing our way - plus a hoss like Cleveland would get 3, maybe four years of starting time with us more then likely = plus better education, facilities, city, colors, mascot, scenary (human and otherwise) - need I go on?
Re: Avery Cleveland: not committedOne has got to believe a major question of ANY recruit would be "who is my position coach"? After Giles departure, Bennett has interviewed several top coaches and has, I believe, gotten a really, really good coach picked out.
Help is on the way....but the hire can not be announced until the "posting deadline" has passed. SMU...2nd to None
Re: Avery Cleveland: not committedWhy would Giles' departuer affect Cleveland? Giles coached defensive ends. Cleveland is a linebacker.

If you'd actually read the FFF, you'd see most of us are actually pretty happy for you guys to finally start getting some recruits. We, like you guys, want our schedule to be as good as it can be, and you guys haven't been helping out. While we're not too concerned that we may have lost one or too here or there (we have 21 with only three or four to go), we gave full credit that he was a good one and would have liked to have gotten him...apparently there's still a chance. First, I think you guys are giving rivals too much credit. Rankings aren't worth all that much (it's based mainly on who the big subscribers are recruiting...ie: UT and A&M), but when you're looking for the light at the end of the tunnell, it is a good place to start. Congrats on the good class, but I think you guys need to look (if you're going to pay attention to it), at the average stars. TCU's class will be ranked above you once they have all of ours listed...and the boasting will seem a little silly.
Re: Avery Cleveland: not committedLoL...Coach Gush would be his position coach. He's not the most likable guy on the field, but he'll do anything for his linebackers and he's an amazing coach. Coach Gush was my guy. I was there, doing a rather shoddy job of running drills. I heard those guys [deleted] and complain, but saw how much better they were on gameday, and how much they loved Coach Gush off the field

Re: Avery Cleveland: not committedFroggy - i have read many of the posts on your site, and there is alot of arrogance about class comparisons - I think the fact that the classes are going to be pretty close in quality should be concerning to the TCU faithful give our respective records - and by the way - rivals.com ranking big school recruits higher does not explain away anything having to do with SMU's class - we are smaller then you are in total enrollment.
