Notebook: SMU offers Cassel

February 23, 2012 by Scott Spruill

PREP NOTES FOR FEB. 23
In the middle of our basketball postseason, some football news: Eisenhower quarterback Kolney Cassel says he’s received his first scholarship offer — from Southern Methodist University.

The CBBN 4A’s co-offensive player of the year set single-season school records for passing yardage (2,664) and touchdowns (27).

SMU, located in Dallas, went to its third straight bowl game under coach June Jones last season and defeated Pitt in the Compass Bowl.

Cassel is planning a trip Saturday to Washington State for an early junior day visitation.

Linky dinky doo

Say him play when i was still in Washington. Biggest upside is his accuracy, anticipation and ability to place the ball to hit receivers in stride. Arm strength moderate but can muster enough velocity to nail the short and intermediate stuff. He is young so i don't think critiquing his long ball is a fair assessment at this stage in his career.

Hmmm.

I'll assume he goes to Washington State.

Just the kind of player Leach likes...

Looks good. A true pro-style QB.

Good arm/accurate for (you're right) crappy mechanics. Nothing a well regimented red shirted year could fix. Right now, it's Phillip Rivers-esque.

Do you mean couldn't fix? Or are you saying he is unfixable?

Yakima is almost the end of the world and Pullman (WSU) is the end of the world for those of you who have never had the chance to speed through both. I assure you that he will love Dallas and never give Pullman a second thought unless a girlfriend is involved.

I think he has grown up liking WSU. I do not think we get him if leach wants him.

Washington St has 3 outstanding offers out to uncommitted higher ranked QB so this guy would probably have to wait awhile to get an offer from Leach
