I like the way you're thinking.

I heard he was especially instrumental in Martin Gramatica's success...

What a dumb post...Bennett wasn't around most of those players for more than 1 year, and the vast majority weren't even players he would have coached...

Kansas State...you list 24 players, when in reality, he can only take credit for 11, and several of them were already NFL prospects before he arrived, but I'll give them to you anyway.

OU...you list 11 players. He was there for 1 YEAR, hardly long enough to take credit. Plus, you included players from 2 years after he left. He also was the coach for DB's, so you can only really include them. That leaves 1 player, and he was coached by someone else before finally going to the NFL.

TCU...you list 9 players. Chance McCarty is the only player than can possibly be contributed to him. Including the 2001 players is a complete joke. Gary Patterson and Fran get the credit for them...nice try.

A&M...you list 18 players. He was only there for 2 year. You can't give him credit for players that were coached by someone else for several years. Only 4 players can really be given to him, even being lenient.

Thats 17 players that Bennett can take any credit for getting drafted into the NFL, and some of those are still a stretch. I'm sure Bennett is a great coach, but please...don't try to say that he's responsible for 60 or more players being Drafted since 1996.

By my count, 17 is still more than 3. And he helped a lot more than 17 of those.

And, for the record, I interviewed Roy Williams when he was a HS senior in California. He told me that one of the main reasons he signed with Oklahoma was because Coach Bennett believed in him and in his abilities and his future, and because he believed Coach Bennett was the man he wanted to play for. Williams encountered some nay-sayers in his early years at OU - Coach Bennett endorsed him all the way. I'd say Williams turned out OK. I'd also say Coach Bennett knows a thing or two about spotting talent.

Dear TCU fan,

The first post in this thread was in response to this post: <A HREF="http://128.121.195.33/ubb/Forum2/HTML/000888.html" TARGET=_blank>http://128.121.195.33/ubb/Forum2/HTML/000888.html</A>

Before you make a new account and spend three hours doing research, check a bit of the history of previous comments to see if there's any sarcasm involved.

You are absolutely correct in your assesment of my post.

If Brian Urlacker (sp) of New Mexico is a Gary Patterson Boy, I am going to attribute all of the above 60+ NFL players to Coach Bennett.

I have no idea of his involvement in their development - but I probably pretty accurate in saying that he worked with most of these guys at some point (in recruiting, training, gameday prep, etc.

Pony Time,

That was a hilarious post. TCU fan didn’t get it. SMU fans did.

Patterson coached Urlacher before he went into the draft. The 17 players I included met the same criteria. I never said Bennett wasn't a good coach, and its obvious that he's had a big impact on a lot of players. I was just pointing out that claiming 60 players going into the NFL was ridiculous. I'll also say that Patterson had little to do with Tomlinson making it to the NFL, which was claimed by the post you were responding to. He didn't recruit Tomlinson (neither did Fran), but if anyone should receive credit, its Fran and Mike Schultz (TCU's current OC and the RB coach at the time).
