Now that it appears Martin is probably headed to SMU(yah!), I think its just possible we're finished for the class. I think barring a commitment from Berryman or Derricks, the class with be closed out and in great fashion. With Martin we'd have ten 3 star commitments as compared to one last year, and a final class ranking somewhere in the Mid 30's to at worst 50. I don't think you could ask a lot of more of Coach Bennett than that.

And this is only his first full year of recruiting. Wait until he really gets a head of steam. You figure that in his first year, he's been relying on his extensive network of contacts in the coaching ranks. Now he can really start to get out and beat the bushes more, digging up even more contacts in high schools statewide. And if we add a couple of wins this year, the sky's the limit.

We have to start winning to sustain recruiting momentum. We should get a bounce form Bennett’s efforts for 2 to 3 years but then we need a good win lose record to sustain it.
Playing in an empty stadium with no chance of a bowl game are not good recruiting tools.
Good job by Bennett and his staff and hopefully we will have more in the stadium and a chance for a bowl soon.

Kurt you haven't followed recruiting long enough if you think Martin is in the bag. Never assume a thing-I'm sure there will be plenty of surprises before signing date.

To Stallion / Kurt,
Per the ‘Hey Stallion’ thread started 1/21, Stallion, you seem to imply that our recruiting class will be ranked about #60, which in your own words would be “an absolutely outstanding classâ€. Kurt, on the above thread, you seem to think we will end up between #30 to #50.
That seems to be a big variance. Can one or both of you explain why?
By the way, I really enjoy these recruiting posts.

How would adding Anthony Schlegel affect those rankings?

well I've been following recruiting for about 30 years so I have a little experience at what is happening. Today we are down further to about No. 39 in total points and 79 in average points. What's happening now is that SMU's class is close to full and hasn't change very much in weeks-thus no additional points in the total points category. The other schools are filling up their classes and the BCS schools are passing and probably will continue to pass us in total points(even 1 star and 2 star players award teams points so that simply by adding playing the total points of a class go up). The average points category(basically number of stars divided by number of players) is skewed and will probably remain skewed until Rivals adds all the names of players who signed on Signing Date. At that point I feel we may be in the Top 50-60 in Total Points and maybe 60-70 in average points. Then you have to choose what is more important the average rating of each player or the total points for the class. I would say average the two scores and you have a good barometer on how SMU performed in recruiting.
