DMN reporting that New Boston athlete Dorsey, 5-11 190 has committed to SMU. What's the rest of his story? Speed?? Recruited for what position(s)?

Dorsey is a 2 star 5-11 195 4.4 guy. Looks like a solid pickup to me. I don't know who else had offered him though.

He is listed as an athlete. I hope he can play safety. From what I can tell he had some interest from Arkansas, Iowa St and Oklahoma State. I don't know if they offered him. Somehow I doubt it but nonetheless we need DBs. You never know who is going to turn out to be the next Donald Mitchell, Coby Rhinehart or Kevin Garrett.

Dorsey was an outstanding running back/corner back for the 3A New Boston Lions. Very fast and extremely strong. He was a team leader. I am sure Ricky Joe will be glad to be playing with him since Dorsey's Lions knocked Meeks' Tigers out of the playoffs.

I can think of a lot worse things than a big, tall CB who can run. I think this could be a really nice pick-up. We need defenders who can match up against tall receivers.

I'll assume that was sarcasm. Not too many CBs who are over 6 feet in college or the pros. I like his size. At 195 he can probably deliver a hit.

Big ups to DandyFan, for calling Cedric Dorsey first as a possibility. That's some shrewd research on your part!

Does anyone have any stats on this guy? I can't find anything anywhere on him.

This is all I could find in the Longview paper sports archives during the playoffs. Impressive though:

--------------------------------------------
New Boston

Cedric Dorsey, who played with a turf toe earlier this season, is the feature back as well as the go-to guy for the Lions. He has 1,611 yards and 15 touchdowns after a 183-yard performance in last week’s come-from-behind victory over Commerce.

As a junior, Dorsey (5-11, 180) showed flashes of things to come, gaining 1,076 yards and scoring 15 times.

Just for grins, I placed the playoff game summary of Mount Pleasant vs. New Boston (Ricky Joe's team vs. Cedric Dorsey's) on the Home Page under "In the News"

Ricky and Dandy Don would be most disappointed in you webmaster. It's MT.VERNON not Mt. Pleasant.

webmaster is correct. The article came from the Mt. Pleasant Daily Tribune. Mt. Pleasant is only 14 miles from Mt. Vernon and usually covers the MV Tigers better than the local Mt. Vernon paper. Plus, the playoff game was played in Mt. Pleasant.

What I meant to say in my previous post is that the webmaster was probably looking at the article coming from the Mt. Pleasant paper and accidently said Mt. Pleasant when referring to Meeks. For those of us from Mt. Vernon, these 2 towns get mixed up all the time.
