Limping in to the finish having missed on Armstrong, Steptoe, Fontenot, Foreman, Ingram, and Gordon.
Sure hope we get Martin. Berryman remains a possibility. We should know something about his situation after he visits AZ this week end.

Re: Close but No CigarGimme Tom Derricks, and I'm one happy PonyFan!
Re: Close but No CigarAgreed. Even without Derricks or the Air Force linebacker, no one can deny that this would be a very encouraging class even if we lose a two or three before signing day. Bennett's meeting real needs with this class and is recruiting the type of player that fits his mold.

Re: Close but No Cigaryou say limping to the finish line-I say we got Alexander, Sturdivant and hopefully Martin. There was a little too much RAMPANT OPTIMISM around here a few weeks ago. That's the way recruiting goes. You get 10 visits from kids who have 4-5 offers and you come way with 2-3 commitments. The key is to make sure you are in on a large pool of applicants so the numbers game doesn't get you. In years past SMU artificially shrunk its own pool of applicants so that there wan no room for error.

Re: Close but No CigarWho's Alexander?
Re: Close but No CigarMaybe one of these guys?
WR Anthony Alexander (6-2, 185) - Grand Prairie (South Grand Prairie HS), Texas or OL Lucius Alexander (6-9, 320) - Austin (LBJ), Texas Makes him a HS teammate of Avery Cleveland!
Re: Close but No CigarGlass is half full. Glass is half empty. Depends on your point of view. I like the class and think we have set a good foundation for the years to come. From now on we can add players to a firm base, instead of scrambling to fill holes all over the place.

Re: Close but No CigarStallion or another -
"Star" Ratings by Rivals have been often mentioned this recruiting season. DO you still have the total number of Stars and the average per player for the 2001 and 2002 recruits? If SMU keeps all who have committed, what will the numbers be this year?
Re: Close but No CigarNo I think Rivals took the Class Rankings down. However, in 2002 I believe in average stars we were something like 83rd(better in total points but since we took a full 25 that artificially inflated our score-we got only 1 3 star player Anthony Bennett), in 2000 and 2001 I believe we were in the 95 to 99 range both years. They will be our Senior and Junior classes next year.
