If only that was true. I have yet to see the vaunted (in JJ's mind) R&S.

Why offer a kicker?
You can get them with ads in the Daily Campus.

What we really need is a great punter for the JJ special- 4th and 3 or under at or around the 40 yard line. Can we just start calling JJ a "Net 20" guru instead of a "R&S" guru?

You haven't seen that, despite last year's down year, we've had some of the top numbers in all of college football? We were number 20 in total offense just the previous season. And top 10 in passing yards. And if you're complaining about the overuse of the R part of the R&S equation, I'd ask what else would you do when Zach Line inexplicably busted out as one of the best runners in all of college football. Throw more?
We win games and yet people still find stuff to complain about.

Never heard that one from him. I do remember when he first got to SMU a quote from June about how "he doesn't worry about punting" seemingly bragging about his offense. Someone else may remember the exact quote, which is laughable after seeing his coaching style at SMU.

The exact quote was "I don't think about punting" in response to a question about how having a punter like Morestead would affect his offensive strategy. "Punting is winning" is a Rick Neuheisel quote from that same 2008 season, I think about that quote whenever June decides to punt in prime "Go for it" territory (4th and less than 5 on the plus side of the field). MustangIcon's "Net 20" guru comment is appropriate because that's all we seem to get out of those situations.

Iif we had a quarterback that had talent or wasn't injured last year we would have more that 20 yards per possession, but of course that is dependent upon recruiting. Even if we just agressively recruited those interested in SMU such as the new starter at Ok St. and A&M's newest commitment we would have a couple more competing for the job. I don't understand taking only one per year, and those we have recruited simply haven't panned out. June has to rely on transfers like JJ or Gilbert which are better than any of those we recuit from high school. Although I do believe our incoming QB from Arkansas may be the real deal.

Thanks for the clarification. Hadn't heard the Rick N quote before but it certainly could apply to June's philosophy since he has been at SMU.

We don't punt but we do kick field goals and kick offs. He would have been a good get for us.

If the coaches really want the guy, I would think there still would be a chance to get him to change his mind. SMU is far more like Carroll HS than UH is, it's a lot closer to home and a lot of Carroll students (his friends?) go to SMU.

Plus he already has a better education at S.L.C. that he can't build on at u.h.
