I saw them being shown around the campus today. I understand Salpointe is a good program.

EJ Holland â€@EJSports4
Salpointe (AZ) LB Carlos Carroll committed to #SMU after visiting today. Held offers from #SanDiegoState and #SouthDakotaState
Should open a door at Salpointe which is a good football school from what I hear.

I thought I read that Carroll also had an offer from Air Force?

Scout lists an Air Force offer.

everybody gets an Air Force "offer". they give out about 250 year. In fact they have no limits on commitments so an "offer" from Air Force really doesn't tell you much. San Diego St Coaches apparently lost his telephone number because he couldn't get them to return his calls. I think he made a solid decision in committing to SMU

Air Force might offer a lot of students a place in school, but it still has the same limits on the number of players it can have on the team, so this guy has a soon-to-be-Big East offer in San Diego State and a MWC offer (Air Force).
Welcome to SMU, Carlos!

Welcome to SMU, Carlos!
Then I guess it is good to have 200 people commit and then once they get to school select the top 85 players they want on the team.

stallion - that was a bit of toolish thing to post. you have no idea if they did or didn't want the guy - apparently they did since they are listed as offering.
welcome to SMU CC - now get to work and prove all these second guessers wrong.

Carlos himself said he could not get them to call him back.

SMUGUY we've gone over this a Million times. Air Force is exempt from NCAA rules on scholarships. They usually get 50 commitments to the AFA and then stash another 45 in their Air Force Prep program that accounts for a surprising high percentage of players that end up starting for Air Force. Its the only way they can compete in Division 1A-the NCAA lets them bend the rules. There are several in depth articles about this on the internet

All military academy cadets are on the same full scholarship.

That may be, but he was still offered a scholarship to join their team, and it's not like they can sign 100 players a year.
By the way, is it true Fister committed today, too?

Here is the 2009 Air Force Prep Academy Roster-its the only one I could find quickly-there are over 70 FRESHMAN on the Roster. They are all on scholarship. This is in addition to the UNLIMITED numbers of appointments that receive free education for the Air Force Academy. They are exempt from the 25 man scholarship limit AND the 85 man scholarship limit. Last time I looked they bring in about 40-45 freshman directly to the academy each year and play both a Varsity and Junior Varsity team. (Rivals had 43 commitments as of a week after signing date in 2011 after which Rivals no longer updates commitments-some get their appointments later) That's 3 separate teams Varsity, Junior Varsity and Prep School where an Air Force "offer" might end up. In fact, Air Force does bring in over 100 Freshman a year into its Program. A reported Air Force offer while interesting doesn't mean the same thing as an offer from a normal Division 1A team

So would that make 11 or 12?
I haven't found a lot about him, but it looks like he has a decent frame and athleticism. Hopefully Carlos Carroll can convince Fister to join him in Big D!
