In today's DMN it showed the leaders in high school basketball stats among 3A high schools. Meeks shows up as a leader in rebounds. Whenever golf season rolls around, you'll likely see his name again among the state leaders.

I understand Ricky Joe is also a 70% free throw shooter, and leading scorer on the 19-3 Mt. Vernon Tiger basketball team.

Maybe he could play all 3 sports at SMU?
OK, maybe not - that's asking a lot.

While he probably could, let's redshirt him, let him get ready to be a Division 1 QB for several years to come. It's just really nice to see a whole host of really good athletes coming to the Hilltop. It's been a really long time.

I wonder what the forecast is for redshirts with this recruiting class? There is an awful lot speed to keep on the sidelines for a year. Let's just hope the excitement for this recruiting class in the spring can turn to patience in the fall.

dandyfan makes a great point. As excited as we all are about the truckload of talent headed to the Hilltop, we have to remember that many of these guys will redshirt and need time to get bigger and stronger. There will be an influx of talent from last year's class — Darrin Johnson, some of the o-linemen, Anthony Barnett, etc. — but the majority of the new players will make their debuts in 2004.

Have patience, be supportive, attend EVERY game, be loud and cheer your lungs out. These guys will be well worth the wait.
