I was asked to pass along a little info, since ponypride is away from the desk. Stavion Lowe has transferred from LSU to SMU. 6'5 300+ offensive tackle that will be eligble this year. He was at Bethune Cookman last year. Went to Brownwood High School, as did current SMU player Derek Longoria. Four star player out of high school with offers from Bama, Notre Dame, Auburn, and so on. Massive addition, in every way!

More depth for the OL is a good thing. Guessing he'll end up at LT for 2 seasons.

He never played a down at LSU, spent one season there as a Freshman Redshirt ('09/'10). Then transferred to a JC for two years ('10/'11-'11/'12). He is coming in as a JC transfer. Anyway that is how Rivals is reporting it.

6'5 300+ tackle with 2 years of JUCO experience with those sort of offers, I would say is an immediate starter potentially based on that info alone. However, if he completed 2 years of JUCO and is eligible this year, why is he just now signing, 4 months after signing day?

I'm sure the June bashers will somehow figure out some way to pooh-pooh this acquisition.
6'5 and looks positively scrawny at 295 lbs in this photo from 2009.

Lowe has the potential to significantly upgrade our young OL and adds an experienced stabilizing force to bookend with Gottschalk and/or Collins and McJunkin in the middle. To be successful early in the season, I thought it would be necessary to add a JUCO lineman or two. The addition of Lowe is overachievement in the biggest way by Jones & Co.

lol at immediate spin against the "June bashers." It's a great pickup, and it's wonderful to have him come in and be able to immediately protect Gilbert's blind side for two years. Combined with Palcic's focus on technical excellence, this was great news to wake up to.

He didn't play at a JC, he played at Bethune-cookman, they are fcs. He either graduated or is getting a family hardship waiver, that is the only way he would be able to play this year.
