Martin To ColoradoHe just committed to Colorado! Guess he didn't think very much of us after all since Colorado sold him pretty easily after a very short courtship!

Re: Martin To ColoradoDamn. We were so close. It was nice to see us compete with some very good football programs for a recruit. I do, however, like our other offensive lineman recruits. Bennett and company are doing a great job. I guess this recruit was like dating....you bring her flowers and candy, open the car door for her, take her to a nice dinner and a movie, and she still will not sleep with you.
Re: Martin To ColoradoYou had to wonder though. He was dragging his feet for a long time just looking for something else.
Go Ponies!!
Beat whoever it is we are playing!! @PonyGrad
Re: Martin To ColoradoHopefully his arse can stand the pine he'll be riding for a couple of years.
Re: Martin To ColoradoMartin would have been a nice addition to this class, but with Boren, Turner, Burley & Peveto...we've got some good prospects coming in. For those who really wanted a monster up front, don't forget that Burley is over 300 lbs and runs a faster 40 than Martin.
Re: Martin To ColoradoIt's interesting that everyone of the prospects who visited CU this weekend and committed (CU added four including Khary Martin) talked about how great their visits were and how much food they consumed while they were there. I wonder if any of these guys have any idea how the altitude change from going from sea level or maybe 1000 feet up to 6,000 feet altitude affects you mentally and otherwise. Everyone of the commits from this weekend was influenced by the feedbag at 6,000 feet after coming from sea level or a few thousand feet above. I hope Khary is prepared to work out in the thin air with his 335 lb frame. And, I doubt that he was seduced by one of his fellow recruits - CU's top recruit a four star Offensive Tackle from Denver who has grown up in the altitude of the Rockies and who is used to the climate. Good luck to Khary. I truly thought he might be able to see through the smokescreen. Between now and August, he'd better start working on everything he can to improve his wind. The thin air in Boulder will absolutely "blow" him away - just like it did during his visit.
I hope he succeeds at CU and gets his degree. As CU's commitments continue to rise between now and Wednesday, he may get lost in the recruiting game and find himself "without." I hope it doesn't happen. But, it has happened to many other recruits in the past, (not necessarily at CU)and they find themselves trying to find a school to go to after the one they committed to pulled their 'ship at the last minute with some BS excuse when the school got a commitment from someone they wanted more at the last minute. And, CU is still holding their breath on several recruits they'd love to have. And, if CU does get a commit from a guy they want more than Khary and suddenly tell him that he needs to greyshirt or walk-on or whatever - but that they just don't have a 'ship for him, and he comes back to SMU asking if there's still a 'ship available for him, the answer will likely be that the 'ship we had offered him and which he turned down has been filled by someone else. And, it will have been. I really wanted Khary to be a part of our class. But, if not, I do wish him luck at CU and in his future endeavors. He'll succeed wherever he ends up.
Re: Martin To Colorado"For those who really wanted a monster up front, don't forget that Burley is over 300 lbs. and runs a faster 40 than Martin."
Maybe - I have them both at 5.6 in the 40, straight from their head coaches. I do, however, think Burley is the better long-term prospect. Most of his weight is in his thighs and backside, so he can add immeasurable size and strength in his upper body. So he could end up getting as big as Martin, or at least close to it. Martin, on the other hand, is as big as he ever will be. He could get a little stronger, but probably will be asked to lose weight, not add. So Burley's room for potential improvement is far greater than that of Martin.
Re: Martin To ColoradoNext year, when we have a few more wins under our collective belt, and when we have more talented players coming in, we'll close this kind of deal.
Re: Martin To ColoradoI also like Burley's attitude better. Everyone (including me) was enamored with Martin's size, but Burley plays with ferocity... as do Turner and Boren. Once Peveto adds strength, he might be a real good 'un too.

Re: Martin To ColoradoRumor has it Burley may go to defense.
Re: Martin To ColoradoI know Baylor and LaTech tried to recruit him as a nose guard (and he was very successful in that capacity at Scurry-Rosser), but we need him at tackle.
Think about it: We already have a spot to fill at left tackle and Sterling Harris is going to vacate right tackle after next season. We need someone to step up and become heir apparent at both tackle spots. In addition, we already recruited very well at NG/DT with Bonds and Jones. Re: Martin To ColoradoAnd Karrington is playing DT this year, and Charlie Berry might in a few years. I think Burley should stay at OT.
Although when you think about it, the idea of Burley and Darrin Johnson lining up next to each other at DT is pretty imposing, don't you think? 6-foot-5 (Burley) and 6-6 (Johnson) coming up the middle? And not that they're in the rotation, but how about bring 6-5 OLB Jamar Bey and 6-5 OLB Cole Horton from the edges on each side? You'd have to be Manute Bol complete a pass. Fountain of youth

Re: Martin To ColoradoAnd don't forget that they have moved Benson and Guidry to defense as well and they are both tall and big.
Re: Martin To ColoradoGuidry is still on the OL. Burley and Johnson are DT, unless they move again because of Martin.
