Jeremiah Gaines on committing to #SMU: "I'm comfortable with my decision. It took a lot of prayers, but I think I made the right one."

Excellent get.
I agree with couch 'em. While there might very well be quality players in the other commitments, the chances go up infinitely when the player has the type of offers that Gaines has.
Also, it is nice to finally beat the froggies for a recruit. Let's get more....

Yes!!!
Now, let's keep him.
Great decision young man. You will get a quality education, your family will be able to see you play, and you will play for a school/teammates/coaches committed to your success on and off the field.

A player with a laundry list of quality offers and from the DFW area chose SMU because:
“What came down to it with me was SMU’s academics. They have top tier programs,†Gaines said. “(Theology) I want to earn either a major or minor in that, and SMU’s graduate school is one of the best in the country.â€
Sounds like a great kid with the maturity to already plan for life after football. What does a TE do in the R'n'S though?

From the God side of things, it is great that a kid took a close look at the Theology school and made that a major reason for the commitment.

If he grows out of the position-and that happens-he could still be the Minister of Defense (drumroll)

This guy plus two or three others that feel pretty close are going to make me feel much better about this class. Also we have to acknowledge that JJ does have a knack for finding the hidden recruit (i say that at the risk of being re-branded a sunshiner). I do think we need to allocate more resources to recruiting - and i mean a bunch more. it is time for us to step this up a level.

JJ can find some hidden talent, but at Hawaii as he has stated, he had the benefit of being at a state school with lots of available walkons (also desire to stay near home, and geographic cost of being recruited by out of state schools). Not too many kids are going to be able to walkon at a school that cost $55k+ a year.

As a junior, he was named to the All-Texas team by something called 3rd Coast Preps.
