Whatever happened to this guy? Last I heard, he was listing Colorado, Duke, LSU, SMU, Mizzou, UCLA and Baylor. But to the best of my knowledge, he never signed anywhere. The guy's a 6-5, 255-pound OL/TE/DL candidate. If we could somehow talk him into walking on, what a find he could turn out to be. The FW Dunbar star is #60 on the Morning News' All-Area list.

Rivals said he went JC but doesn't say which one.

And as far as I know, center Eddie Montoya (from somewhere in Oklahoma) and center Austin Russell (Carrollton Newman Smith) never committed anywhere, either. Both are centers who are bigger than 300. Walk-on candidates maybe?Ã

Russell appears to be a qualifier but isn't listed as a commitment. Montoya is going JC route because of academic issues.

Otto,
First, Marcus Martin signed with Kilgore J.C., which indicates a grade problem. Second, and I am just guessing, it would probably be impossible for us to get a player from Ft. Worth Dunbar to walk on because of finances.

So can we get Austin Russell? He's one big dude.
He'd be the 300-plus center that Peruna Punch wants so bad.

we need to stop trying to get players nobody else offers.

Not so fast, my friend!
Coach Bennett said that this year, for the first time, we're actively recruiting walk-ons, and he wants players who have drawn interest, if not genuine scholarship offers, from other schools. He was adamant about the fact that he's not going to welcome just anyone for a walk-on tryout. Austin Russell seems like a perfect candidate.
I found a list of some others - will post in a new thread.

I'm with Stallion. Unless these guys show outstanding character and/or work ethic, let em be.

If they're willing to walk-on, what's wrong with adding them? Seems like they would just add quality practice players to stir competition.

The idea is exactly what you say...to add "QUALITY" practice players. Walk-ons should have the ability to potentially earn scholarships. Plain and simple, even in a program like SMU's.

Also, I got the center I wanted in Bryan Turner... Unless of course he ends up at guard.
