Someone get Trey Griffin on the phone

Two guys from Lockhart, Texas, make me think Trey Griffin could be a valuable recruiting asset.

1. To the best of my knowledge, Lockhart OL Matt Owens never signed a national letter-of-intent. Might Trey be able to convince his old teammate (and friend, I hear) to join him at SMU?

2. There's a CB who will be a senior at Lockhart this year named Alex Contreras. 6-3, 175, runs a 4.5. I know it's against small-school competition, but he sounds like he has the tools to be a decent player, if not better than decent.

How big is the Owens kid? I keep reading that we're still thin on the offensive line. If he has size and ability, he'd be a great pick-up. But if he has both, wouldn't he have signed somewhere? Or are there injury issues? Other extenuating circumstances?

As I recall, Owens is 6-4 or 6-5, and just over 300. He was reported to be a pretty solid blocker, and I saw a photo of him once - he's not fat. He's a big, strong lineman, although I don't know anything about his footwork or quickness.
