WR Help On The Way

As much bellyaching that's been made about our recent recruiting activity (from me included), we will be picking up 2 pretty darn good WR recruits in this class in Gaines and Taylor IMHO if we can keep them. They are both pretty big guys (Gaines at 6'3" and 230ish and Taylor at 6'2" supposedly) who seem like good, competitive kids with real skills. Gaines has the best offer list we've seen in a while here and Taylor just put up 250 yards and plays against stiff competition at Lufkin (same program that produced Dez Bryant).

I think this class, especially if these 2 guys stay committed, will not be that bad actually ESPECIALLY if we can land a big time DL (like Billings) and I'll be happy with the class. Of course, I'd prefer 4-5 four stars but I'm trying to stay realistic for this year.

The only issue is I wish it did not take so long to learn this offense. Dieter got here early and still isn't really getting on the field and I would think it is because he is still learning the offense. So it might take Gaines and Taylor a redshirt year to learn the offense.

Agreed.

Of course, I don't know what I'm talking about, but IMHO you just recruit the best talent you can get and put them in positions to succeed - to heck with a "system". But I guess in the business of coaching, you get known for a "system" and that's how you promote yourself. I remember both Barry Switzer and Jimmy Johnson saying something about the thing that made them great college coaches was because they had the best talent.

Long way until signing day, we'll see how this class end up comparing with our future competition.

And sadly it looks like SMU has no chance with Billings. :-(

I just hope that Gaines is utilized efficiently. I haven't seen much use for a TE in JJ's Run and Crap Shoot.

I agree.

With someone with that size, speed, and skill you just get him the ball anyway you can - pass, run, fumble-ruskie, statue of liberty, whatever! ;-)

He's going to be RB-you watch-and he perfectly fits June jones' idea of the RB position. Might use him more in passing game but June is never going to incorporate a U Back as an essential part of his offense like Leach did at Tech.

And everyone knows that copying Leach is an instant recipe for winning.
