Recruiting priorities

By my count we have about a dozen scholarships available for next year. With that in mind, the coaches need to be extremely selective with who they recruit. My wish list:

2 (big) defensive tackles
2 (big) offensive tackles
1 (tall) defensive end
1 safety (preferably huge)
1 guard/center
2 wide receivers (at least 1 being big)
1 tight end
1 quarterback
1 cornerback

If other players leave the team after the season, then there's some flexibility as the number of scholarships grows.

What do yall think we should go after?

we lose 3 linebackers -- i would think that we would need at least 2 linebackers and most likely 3

Good point. We have some young guys with talent, but many of them are young (Jamar Bey, Cole Horton, Reggie Carrington and all the true freshmen).

I agree - at least 2 LBs need to join the ranks next year.

Right now, there will be only 11 scholarships available next year with 10 graduating seniors and the departure of Marcus Walker. We need DT's, and with 3 LB's graduating, SMU will need to sign at least two from that position.

Good question, Horseradish. I asked the same thing in an earlier post. TJ James is supposed to have a health problem, but he is still on the roster. If he can no longer play, then we might have 12 scholarships available next year. I dont know of anyone else that has left the team

p.s., I predict that ShanDerrick Charles will never play another down at SMU and his scholarship may become available because of medical reasons.

What about Leroy Price? When did he leave the team? Did SMU fill his scholarship in February, or is it open just like it would be if he played through his senior season this year?

I wont be surprised if the prediction on Shanderrick turns out to come true. His back looks like it could become a chronic problem.
Someone told me that one of the offensive linemen quit, and I didnt see him at the Spring game. Dont want to say his name, in case it turns out to be wrong, but perhaps someone else can provide some info?

I know the following guys were there in the spring:
Martin Guidry
Eric Neal
Brad Kieschnick
Steve Reindl
Townsend Hargis
Sterling Harris
Hulsey Smith
Chris Urbanus

Mike Benson was moved to the defensive line.

Not sure about:
Dustin Morton
Matt Munz
Chris Poulus

Can anyone confirm the presence of those three?

PonyFan, you forgot Eidson and Meacham. Morton was injured for the Spring Game, Poulos played in the Spring Game, and d-pony says Muns may have quit the team.
