Dallas LB worth chasing

Postby DallasDiehard » Mon Apr 28, 2003 2:05 pm

Hillcrest HS linebacker Earl Thompson has been listed at 6'0" to 6'2", and I've seen him everywhere from 205-215 pounds. What is consistent is that his name seems to appear on many lists of the top LBs in Texas, and he's fast -- he runs a legit 4.5.
According to rivals, he's considering Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma State and SMU at this point. I've seen him play, and he's really good. Maybe he could be converted to safety, because he's very fast and hits like his opponents are mortal enemies.

For all the talk about the great job Coach Bennett and his staff have done recruiting within the 300-mile radius from Dallas, we really haven't made big in-roads in the DISD. We managed to keep Anthony Barnett when Coach Bennett came on board, and Desmond Jones is going to be a nice player, from all indications. For my money, that's not enough. We need to put an end, or at least slow, the flow of Dallas players to Austin, College Station, Norman, etc.

So if he's that good, let's get this Earl Thompson kid. We'd love to have Ryan Johnson from Dallas Carter, but everyone in the country is after him, and I bet he ends up in Miami. There's Corey Green, the DE from Madison, and Michah Howerth, the DE from W.T. White. And if I remember correctly, there's some great RB at Kimball or someplace. There's also a really good LB at South Oak Cliff named Alvin Newhouse we should try to get, too.
