May Contact Period

today is a significant date for recruiting in that it is the first day that coaches can initiate contact with a recruit by telephone. Unbelievable that UT is almost already done with its recruiting class, but things should pick up for the rest of us now.

How does UT (and other big schools) do this? Is there a period earlier in the spring during which coaches can contact players? Or are all of those commitments players who are great and know they want to be recruited by a certain school, and make the contact themselves?

From what I understand, some of the big programs don't do almost any recruiting when it comes to SOME of the early commits. There will be kids who grew up a fan of a school, or the son of a former player, and basically they contact the school (during legal time periods). If an offer is extended, they grab it for the chance to play for a longtime favorite. The real recruiting is underway now.
