have seen him play several times this year. Great feet - very strong and he is going to get much bigger and stronger. Leads the team in every way. Unbelievable student - probably could have gotten a full ride scholastically.
very nice pick up. We need to go get their kicker also. routine 50 yds - good kick offs

If we get a kicker he needs to be a walk on because we need a NT and we can only sign 25 players on signing day per NCAA rules.

It is kind of a bummer that If this kid had no BCS offers there would be double the amount of replies to this post about how bad are staff is at recruiting. Not that I'm defending the job they are doing, but more commenting on how this board loves to be miserable.

I'm not sure the Iowa state offer is what is keeping all the "haters" at bay.

In reading Rivals......sounds like the "very limited contact" recruiting strategy worked with him.

Tends to work the best with guys that have weak offers or none at all.

so - you are hacked when a recruit has no BCS offers and also when they do (iowa State)?
This is a good pick up - just be happy if you are an SMU fan. You dont have to give up the main narritive which is we aren't passionate enough about recruiting at the coach level - but Barns is good and we are lucky to have him!

would this be the long, lost son of Cliff Barnes, loser nemesis to JR Ewing, brother of Pam Ewing, etc ?

Actually he is the long lost son of John Barns who was a heck of a player for Stanford (& Highland Park) back in the day. Great kid who comes from a great family.

Yes. The Iowa States and Kansas' of the BCS world is who we should be competing as well as winning battles. And not against the SFA's, UNT's, McNeese States, and UTSA's of the world.
