I saw a report that said Drew Weatherford - who I think is the son and grandson of two former SMU players - has offers from a lot of schools: Auburn, Florida, Louisville, Minnesota, South Florida, Tulane, SMU, Tennessee, Duke and Florida State. I read on this board a while back that if he got an offer from Florida State, he was very likely to end up in Tallahassee.

That doesn't bode well. I also had read that he grew up a Florida State fan (and doesn't he have family there?) - looks like Bobby Bowden might have the inside track.e

Guys -- stop worrying! We may not even take a quarterback this year! Weatherford is still scheduled to visit here toward the end of July. We may not know anything about taking a quaterback until after the freshmen report and the coaches can really get a good look at Meeks and Phillips.

I hear the coaches really like Weatherford. However, with Meeks and Phillips en route to SMU, and with Bartel and Wallis still young, maybe you're right.
Besides, with limited scholarships, the coaches have to be extremely selective on who they take.

we would take Weatherford WITHOUT hesitation regardless of who we have coming in at QB. He's a national top fifty prospect. I just don't think we'll be lucky enough to land him. If we did though. OMG. He'd send shockwaves through recruiting circles if he chose SMU.

Hopefully Coach Bennett's recruiting class will be so strong we'll send those shockwaves anyway! The Chase brothers sound like a great start.

there is no way in hell we don't sign each and every 4 star+ recruit that wants to come here. What are you people smoking. You think UT doesn't sign additional 4 and 5 star QBs because Simms signed a few years ago?

I would not count us out of the recruiting mix for this kid. I think it is great that he is coming for a visit. I am confident that Bennett and his staff will make the most of it. I agree with Stallion. If this kid is a four star, you take him. Even if we have several other quality quarterbacks. There also is something to be said about playing at the same school that your father played at.

Vincent Chase, Bobby Chase, Drew Weatherford and Donald Massey would be a hell of a start to a class!

Saw another report on some Florida-based website, and Weatherford didn't list schools, but said family is a big part of his life. Which could mean one of two things:

1. He wants to stay near his family, which means we're in trouble, or
2. He wants to be just like his father and his grandfather, in which case we're getting a star QB in the making
