What a great article on the front page of the DMN Sports Day today about our #1 soccer recruit in the country (how often does one of our athletes dominate the front page of Sports Day???). I'm not the biggest soccer guy but my friends who are just rave about this kid. He sounds like a smart kid with extraordinary talent. How great is the story about his dad coming into Hyndman's office to tell the coach that his son will graduate a year early? We may only get him for a year or two but hopefully he can help bring a national championship to SMU. Between Nunez and a 100% healthy Hopkins we should have two of the most exciting athletes in the country next season. Not bad at all.

Nuñez is unreal. He looks so small on the field (that story says he's 5-6, 140 - seems smaller than that) but you can't hit what you can't catch. He's not as fast in a flat sprint as .... former SMU forward Alan Prampin, who could out-run anyone he played. But he has amazing quickness, and he can stop, change directions and be off in another direction in a split second. He's amazingly talented. I hope he enjoys SMU so much he sticks around for four years before going pro!

Wow! Sounds like one helluva recruit!
I'd like to go see some games this fall. Anybody know if they're planning to let the soccer team use Ford now that we'll have fake grass? I hope so.

I seriously doubt it.
Are you saying the fake grass is finally in place?

I can't help but be excited about this kid. Coach Hyndman is not one to pop off about how great his recruits are - he usually says things like "we're going to let him earn his spot, work his way in to the lineup, etc." For him to come out now and say Nuñez might be the best recruit in the country means this kid must be truly sensational.
Can't wait to see him at Westcott Field.

I don't know the status of the grass. I tried peeking through the bars at the north endzone on Sunday morning and saw a pile of sand on the field. Looked to me like it was being installed.

On the SMU construction page, they added Ford Stadium artifical turf to the list of current projects.
