SMU has offered a scholarship to highly touted (3-star) safety De'Nerian Wrighter (6'0", 205, 4.5) of Marlin (Texas) High School. At the moment, he's mulling over offers from SMU, Arkansas, Colorado, Duke, Iowa, Missouri, Notre Dame and TCU.

I don't know how anyone could pass up ND and all that tradition. But I hope we land him anyway !

Every list I've seen has him listed as one of the best DB prospects in Texas, and one of the best safeties anywhere. Is Marlin in East Texas? Jerry Bennett really needs to work his magic and get this guy.

Wrighter is an exceptional safety prospect. I've actually got him at 6-foot-1, and 210 pounds. The 4.5 is legitimate, and the combination of that size and speed makes him a head-hunting hitter coming up from the secondary. Wrighter runs very well, and is very fluid when chasing receivers, but his biggest strength is in run support, where he unloads his vicious hits on ball carriers.

Expect the list of schools offering Wrighter to grow before the recruiting season is done. He's going to be one of the most talked-about safeties in Texas this year.

Notre Dame is too crowded in the secondary. He needs to come to SMU and start by his sophomore year.

If he is so highly recruited why is he only three-stars?
