Former West Virginia commit Deontay McManus picked up an offer from SMU a couple of months ago. Where do the Ponies stand on his short list?

We need monster DLs and OLs (got a few monster OLs in last year's class) and safeties (got 1 in last year's class). How Alabama does it (they get their fair share of 5 stars, but 5 stars are flashes in the pan, their real success lies in the quality of depth along the lines and at safety and not just all 4 stars either . . . at least that's what an Alabama alum told me last week. He said we need to dominate north central TX and we'd be top 25 easy.
DL is still our biggest need IMHO. Minor helps a lot though. Need another 2-3 similar to him (we have some beef with Hollie and the 6'7" guy at least so far). But hope Minor stays committed and qualifies.

Alabama's Rivals Recruiting Rankings:
2008: No 1
2009: No. 1
2010: No. 5
2011: No. 1
2012: No. 1
That's how they do it. There are only about 35 Five stars in the country at all positions-this year is typical with only 3 Five star DTs

Saban readily admits he's not the best coach in college football but does claim to be the best recruiter...the numbers do confirm

It's hard for a 7-6 team to dominate anything
Except Fresno St.!

All we need to do is beat out TCU, UT, OU, Tech, Baylor, UH, RIce and UNT and we can totally do it.

We don't need to beat all of them to be Top 25.

McManus would be a great addition.
They would have to do some manipulation of the class, since we're already at 26 and can only sign 25, but this guy sounds like someone who is talented enough that you find a way to make it work.
Come to SMU!

he's similiar to the California kid a few years ago. When you just need to clean up 1-2 high school grades (maybe 1 credit now) or need qualifying score you can kind of gamble by going to a Prep school hoping you can get that SAT score or the last credit. If he doesn't score a qualifying score he would likely head to JUCO but if he makes it he has only lost 1 year instead of 2 years like at a JUCO. A non-qualifier going to JUCO has to graduate from JUCO.
