Recruit PrioritiesI've often wondered why a recruit chooses a certain school. Here's what Bleacher Reports says FWIW:
1. NFL Development 2. Early playing time/Depth chart 3. Recruiting and Position coach 4. Distance from home 5. Scheme fit 6. Facilities 7. Head coach What do you think? Didn't mention Conference Affiliation. Facilities are low importance as is the head coach, surprised me.
Re: Recruit PrioritiesPersonal connection and relationship with recruiting Coach(es). A guy like Adrian Klemm had 14 commitments last year between SMU/UCLA-this year has 10 solid with 7 four stars and more on the table. When facilities, conference and reputation are relatively equal give me the closer. The NFL thing is way down the list. Head Coach is much higher.

When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.
Re: Recruit PrioritiesCrowd size has been a major factor at SMU. An athlete can play before 50+ thousand at many other schools. Winning tradition is also a huge factor.
Re: Recruit Prioritiesyeah probably more of a factor in why a kid does not chose SMU

Re: Recruit PrioritiesEarly playing time is #2? Bleacher report is 100% crap and should be banned from the board.
Re: Recruit PrioritiesYes, Bleacher Report is crap.
I would have to believe NFL development is near or at the top of the list. Doesn't every player come out of high school thinking "I'm a star in HS, I'll be a star in college, and I'm going to make a living at this one day"? Plagiarize!
Let no one else's work evade your eyes. Remember why the good lord made your eyes. So don't shade your eyes, just Plagiarize, plagiarize, plagiarize! (Only be sure always to call it, please .... "research.")
Re: Recruit PrioritiesPretty sure that came from playing NCAA football
Re: Recruit PrioritiesKlemm's relationships with strength coaches in California is analogous to our bball coaches having great relationships with aau coaches. Agree with stallion that those relatio ships should be at the top
Re: Recruit PrioritiesThe higher caliber players probably have it in that order. Usually whatever school produces a lot of NFL talent that goes in high rounds is able to recruit very well. This time the Bleacher Report did pretty good but conference affiliation is a factor.

Re: Recruit PrioritiesAfter SMU turned 4 WR recruits nobody ever heard of into NFL players 4 consecutive years, and given the system we run, I'm still a bit baffled why we haven't landed a bona-fide blue chip receiver or two yet.

Re: Recruit PrioritiesI agree - thought SMU would be able to get more big recruit receivers than it has - look at Texas.....they get lots of 4 and 5 star receivers and lots of them are never heard from again
Re: Recruit Priorities
We haven't really gone after a lot of high caliber receivers. You have to go hard after them to get them. However, this year we seemed to have modified our philosophy and are going after a lot of high caliber players. I predict we will get one pretty soon. It also helps when an SMU player gets drafted in high rounds. That is major publicity for recruiting. I was hoping Hunt would go in the first round but that might not happen.
