Massey on RivalsOh no! There's a not on rivals that lists the headline of an article on Donald Massey: "SMU to not be in Massey's plans"
It still has SMU on his list (that also includes Arkansas, Baylor, Georgia Tech, Kansas State, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and TCU), but it doesn't sound good. Can someone with access to rivals open and post the story here? Proud to be a PonyFan
Re: Massey on Rivalsin short he doesn't want to go to SMU.

Re: Massey on RivalsNot the best news.
Many people have assumed that Hillsboro, Texas, receiver Donald “D.J.†Massey is going to follow his brother Richuel Massy to SMU, but it sounds like the three-star receiver that is ranked as the nation’s No. 52 receiver by Rivals.com has other plans in mind. “I went up to SMU’s camp on Friday,†Massey, who is 6-foot and 165 pounds, said. “It went all right, but I really don’t see that being where I end up. I didn’t really like it a whole lot. It just didn’t seem like the right place for me. I’m pretty sure that SMU will be in my future plans.†Now the question is has he told his older brother or the SMU staff of his plans? “Well, my brother wants me to go to SMU for sure,†he said. “But I’ve not told him yet, but I think he’ll understand that I have to go out there and find the right place for me.†And at this point, he’s not found it. He has offers from Arkansas, Baylor, Georgia Tech, Kansas State, Notre Dame, SMU, TCU and about four or five others, but he’s yet to find the school that has the perfect feeling for him. “I had a great time at Oklahoma’s camp, and I probably would love to have an offer from them,†Massey said. “I loved my time up there and I learned a lot. But I just don’t have a clue what I’m thinking about now or who I’m leaning toward. I don’t have a No. 1. It honestly feels like I don’t have any scholarships because I don’t have any true favorites. “If you asked me to rank all the teams from one to 10, I would have to say that they’re all ones at this point because I’ve not found my favorite yet. I went over to Baylor last week and really like it. I could see myself there for sure, but I don’t know if I can see myself anywhere, though.†About the only thing sure at this point is that Massey will move from receiver to quarterback this season in an effort to get the ball in his hands more often. “I want the coaches to know that it’s not going to mess up my receiver thing,†Massey said. “That’s what I’m wanting to play in college, but I’ll do whatever it takes to help my team.†The attitude dictates that you don't care whether she comes, stays, lays, or prays. I mean whatever happens, your toes are still tappin'. Now when you got that, then you have the attitude.

Re: Massey on RivalsIf I was in his shoes I would also down play SMU - if everyone thinks he is following his brother they won't leave a spot for him. He may very well not want to go to SMU, but blood is thicker then water - stay tuned.
Re: Massey on Rivalshe's already been offered scholarships by just about everybody except OU.

Re: Massey on RivalsGood riddens!! - If he doesn't want to play here - let him go. There aren't that many 'ships to offer next year, and Bennett and crew will have more than enough outstanding players who want to be here and be part of the rebuilding of Mustang football. I love the attitudes of guys like DeLay, Cleveland, Turner, R Massey, etc... who are excited to be here and build something special - he sounds like Gatewood all over again.
Re: Massey on RivalsAnd better that we find out now as opposed to signing day. Time to move on.
We do need to sign some quality receivers though. The attitude dictates that you don't care whether she comes, stays, lays, or prays. I mean whatever happens, your toes are still tappin'. Now when you got that, then you have the attitude.

Re: Massey on RivalsAs much as I'd like both Massey brothers, I'm going to have to second cheesepony's opinion here.
I think D.J.'s speed may have gone to his head. Adding a target like D.J. for Bartel would be tremendous, but at this point – at least from the stanpoint of immediate impact – I think he'd be the third best receiver in this class (after the Chase brothers). As few scholarships as we have to offer this year, and as much as I hate to say it, might we be better served by spending his 'ship' elsewhere? I eagerly await your thoughts on this one. Re: Massey on RivalsNot to argue just to argue, but only one of the Chase brothers is a receiver. And I don't think he was ever considered a 3-star recruit like DJ.
He would've been a very nice pickup, but there's lots of talent in the area and the state. We just have to find someone else of that caliber. The attitude dictates that you don't care whether she comes, stays, lays, or prays. I mean whatever happens, your toes are still tappin'. Now when you got that, then you have the attitude.

Re: Massey on RivalsComparing Massey to the Chase brothers -- or even to just Bobby Chase -- is a real apples-and-oranges comparison, like comparing Joey Galloway to .... J.J. Stokes or something. Chase has speed, but part of what makes him so good is his size and the way he uses his body to protect the ball from defenders. Massey is a pure burner. There's room in our offense -- and any offense -- for both. I'm going to side with gostangs here in that blood is thicker than water. Richuel said when he signed that his brother wanted to play with him, and hopefully Big Brother will have a lot of influence here.
This guy, from what I gather, is faster than perhaps every receiver we've had since football resumed in 1989. Who's the fastest wideout we've had - Brian Berry? I get the impression the younger Massey is approaching world-class sprinter speed. If that's the case, I would think it's a little foolhardy to suggest we don't have room for him. You can't teach speed like that.
Re: Massey on RivalsI hope he changes his mind between now and then and commits to SMU. He would be a quality addition. We can find scholarships for athletes of this caliber.
BTW- What's a riddens? Was that post really done by a TCU grad?
Re: Massey on RivalsSo what are the chances Coach Bennet and staff just quit recruiting Donald? Not any chance!!!! February is a long, long way off and alot of decisions will also.
SMU...2nd to None
Re: Massey on RivalsI don't think we should give up on him either. But my point is, that if we want a receiver (which I consider tight ends to be... not a WR of course, but a receiver nontheless), we already have two scholarships committed.
#1 to Vincent Chase who many consider the best at his position in the state, and one of the best in the nation. #2 to Bobby Chase, who, while not having gaudy statistics coming from a run first offensive program, is the better receiver. He's very fast (although not boardeline world class like Massey), he's bigger, stronger, runs good routes and has amazing hands. As such, I think he'll be more effective sooner. Certainly so in our offense. Stallion will be the first to tell you that you have to take those ratings with a grain of salt. I put higher credence in game film (which I've seen) and the opinions of kid's coaches and the opinions of those who've coached against them. And the coach's opinion is that Bobby Chase is one of the most dangerous offensive weapons to come out of DFW in several years. Of course Massey's speed is intoxicating, don't get me wrong. What a lethal 1, 2, 3 areial combination we'd have out of this year's class if we could land him too! "It's a couple hundred million dollars. I'm not losing sleep over it." -- David Miller
Re: Massey on RivalsIn his own words he is completely undecided “I just don’t have a clue who I’m leaning toward†and confused “I went over to Baylor last week and really like itâ€.
If Bartel puts up good numbers and Richuel sees significant playing time as has been hinted at, I wouldn’t count us out either. We definitely need playmakers at WR.
Re: Massey on RivalsObviously, we hate to miss out on DJ, but my real concern becomes Richuel. If Donald ends up going to a different school, would Richuel be tempted to transfer with him and be in the same class after Richuel sits out a year and DJ redshirts? Stranger things have happened. It just makes no sense for parents from Hillsboro to try to follow two kids at different colleges that are so close in age around the country. The McCown brothers were different because they were all qbs, Richuel and DJ play different positions. Regardless, DJ's comments sound very strange. Its hard to believe a kid could come to Dallas for a summer camp, where his brother is starting school, and walk away saying he didn't like it. Whats not to like? Big cities, great facilities, A-turf, beautiful campus...what? Its not like you can get turned off by the school or social part of a campus in the summer.
