Just to close the loop on some of the kids with academic issues. That Brandon Hines kid from Kimball that SMU seemed to ignore late in the season ended up double signing with not only NMSU but also a JUCO. So now we know the rest of the story on Hines-its usually academics. I know a lot of people wanted to know why the hell we didn't allow him to commit when he said he intended to. Also, Quincey Aldridge has transferred from TCU to a JUCO for some reason-but it might not be academics. Related to SMU's Aldridge. Finally, they say 3 kids "signed" with SMU which we know is really inaccurate-they were committed but not allowed to sign.
Brian Perrini (24/7) posted this last week:
I'm still looking for signing day lists from Cisco and Kilgore but here are the interesting names on the other lists.
Blinn RB Marcus Goodson – Klein Collins OL Freddie Johnson - Temple (also signed with SMU) DT/OL Romelius Rhone – FB Bush S Carlos Smith – C.E. King
Navarro WR/CB Austin Collins – Navasota DE Bryson Henderson – Mansfield Summit (also signed with TCU) RB Ke’uan Kinner – Little Elm ATH Edwin Mims – Daingerfield LB Keree Renchie – Elkins OL Charles Sanders – Bellaire (was committed to UTEP) OL Brian Taylor – Pittsburg (also signed with SMU) LB Andre Thompson – West Mesquite (also signed with New Mexico State)
Tyler S Quincy Aldridge - Whitehouse (transfer from TCU) CB Melvinson Hartfield – South Oak Cliff (also signed with Arkansas) WR Darrell Minifee – Jacksonville LB X’Zavier Preston – Shreveport Evangel (also signed with Oregon State) RB Terrence Taylor – Diboll (transfer from Houston) RB LaQuintas Wallace – Tyler Lee
Trinity Valley WR Jarvis Baxter – Lakeview Centennial (also signed with SMU) RB Tavarreon Dickerson – Arlington (transferred from Utah State) DT Kerrick Huggins – Dallas Skyline (also signed with Oklahoma) LB Brandon Hines – Dallas Kimball (also signed with New Mexico State) ATH Ladell Marshall – FW O.D. Wyatt QB Ryan Polite – DeSoto (transferred from UTSA) OL George Roberts – SA Madison (also signed with Memphis)

While I was at it-I checked up on Dontae Livingston too-he wasn't able to transfer directly to another Division 1A school but is listed on Roster at El Camino JC in California. Hasn't signed with anyone this year (his 2nd year) yet but may have redshirted or redesignated as a Freshman which is how he is listed on their roster.

So when these guys sign with JC's that in effect resets the recruiting process, does it not? There's not any "stashing" going on is there?

its a jump ball once they enroll at a JUCO-we've signed double digit recruits that ended up as non-qualifiers in JUCOs and none have ever signed with SMU out of JUCO. Of course, some of the Juco signees could retake the SAT/ACT, improve their core GPA in the spring semester or achive a required core grade in one of 16 required core courses and become a late qualifier before August 1 and then play Division 1A later this year

So we actually did something right? JJ and his staff did something right in recruiting?

let's not go that far. we can all just agree that JJ didn't do any harm here. (i would say yes, but i don't want to bring out those who refuse to say anything positive about JJ)
