Two more showing interest

Postby Lotus » Wed Aug 06, 2003 1:49 pm

OL Ryan Cantrell (6-3, 265) of Sugar Land (Clements) has drawn interest from nine schools: Arizona, Arkansas, Duke, Georgia Tech, Houston, Kansas, SMU, TCU and UTEP. Houston is the only school to offer Cantrell, a 2-star prospect (according to insiders) who's said to have great strength and power, and projects as a center in college.

Also, Hughson (Calif.) CB Micah Berteau (5-10, 171, 4.5) has SMU on a short list that also includes Fresno State, Louisiana Tech, Tulane and Vanderbilt.

I've seen Cantrell play, and he's a pretty dominant blocker. There's a lot of times I've seen him hit a guy and then get downfield to take out another defender. He's real strong, and has a good motor - one of those guys you want to go to war with.

Cantrell sounds like the kind of player we need more of!

How did we get in on the California kid? Does he have a family connection at SMU? Hardly sounds like fitting inside the 300-mile radius Coach Bennett has talked about.

The Berteau kid is from central CA. Yes, outside of the 300 mile radius, but why no look outside if someone wants in. My guess, is if the kid is good, fresno will be hot for him, as he lives close by. If he knows SMU, it may be from the fact we play fresno, sjsu, and nevada, all of which try to recruit in the central CA valley. Needless to say, I've seen some good kids come from the valley and Sacramento area. Some kids named Dinwidde and Seneca come to mind.
