Another California QB on the way?Just received an e-mail that suggests another California quarterback is headed to SMU, presumably as a walk-on. Cayman Carter is plays for Corona del Mar High School (the Sea Kings!) in Newport Beach, Calif. MaxPreps.com lists him at 6-1 and 180 pounds during his senior season and shows him completing 167 of 290 passes (57.6 percent) for 2,210 passing yards (157.9 yards per game) with 17 touchdown passes and six interceptions in 2012. No word on if he started every game (or how much of every game he played — looks like they ran up some pretty lopsided victories), injury history, what kind of offense his team runs, etc. Corona del Mar went 12-2 in 2012.

Re: Another California QB on the way?Ah, the wonders of technology. I shot a note to Carter, who confirmed that he will be arriving at SMU this summer as a walk-on. In addition to the information above, he:
• Guided his team to a California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) championship • Was named CIF Offensive MVP • Was named league MVP • Started all 14 games with no injuries • Rushed for more than 1,000 yards • Rushed for 15 touchdowns PonyFans.com ... is really the premier place for Mustang talk on the Web.

Re: Another California QB on the waySo then, he was responsible for 3,210+ yards of passing and rushing and a total of 32 touchdowns...correct? Very interesting.
![]() SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Your math surely is better than mine, but yes — that is correct. PonyFans.com ... is really the premier place for Mustang talk on the Web.

Re: Another California QB on the way?Goodbye Conner Preston?
Re: Another California QB on the way?
Just because someone at his position is walking on?
Re: Another California QB on the way?Just because June keeps recruiting over him at every opportunity he gets
Re: Another California QB on the way?Which is it? Is June not recruiting enough or is he recruiting over guys? You only get one answer.
Re: Another California QB on the way?
So bringing in a true freshman walk on at his position when he is going to be a redshirt sophomore is recruiting over him? I do not see it that way.
Re: Another California QB on the way?I read an article by Leigh Steinberg for the Corona del Mar HS newspaper. Apparently he writes a column for them on a weekly basis. In any event, with Steinberg as June's agent (still ?) and with a direct link to Cayman Carter's high school, wonder if Steinberg was instrumental in referring Carter to SMU ? Just connecting dots this evening as nothing on TV is worth watching.
Re: Another California QB on the way?conner is like 5-10 adding just about any qb would be recruiting "over" him.
Re: Another California QB on the way?well latest QB commit is 5-10 too-so they will be eye-ball to eye-ball
"With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris
When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.
Re: Another California QB on the way?Is he coming in as a QB, or possibly as an ATH?
Re: Another California QB on the way?
Fine. Call it a hunch.
Re: Another California QB on the way?
Both? June hasn't had a QB more than 2 seasons in a row. He is forever plugging holes his own poor recruiting and poor QB developing creates.
