I'm going to keep track of some of the spring performances of our recruits in this thread. Houston Lamar will likely make a run at the 5A State Championship with at least 4 Mustang recruits scoring.

First big meet was the Houston Relays last weekend which had a large field of 16 Houston teams involved:

2014 Commit Darrel Colbert finished 1st in Triple Jump with a 41' 2.5"
2013 Signee Cedrick Lancaster and 2014 Commit Shelby Walker both helped Lamar finish 1st in the 4x100 Meters Relay. 2014 offeree John Bonney also ran with the quartet.

SMU 2013 Signee Jesse Montgomery of Dallas Madison competed in a similiar Dallas meet called the Dr. Napoleon B. Lewis Sr Invitational with 16 mostly Dallas inner city schools. Both of these are quality meets for Dallas and Houston. Montgomery appears to be very competitive in the 400 Meters. He had the fastest time out of all 6 preliminary heats (pretty easily) with a time of 51.41-but there is no report of the results from the finals. Also part of 3rd place team in 4X400 Meters Relay

Great thread.

I think that 51.41 was Montgomery's time in the finals:

J'marcus Rodes has competed in two track meets this year

Triple Jump:
43'2"(1st place)
44'8" (2nd place) (nice!)

300 Meter Hurdles:
42.07 (2nd place)

4 x 400 Meter Relay:
2nd place
(looks like they may have scratched in another meet)

wonder why a WR doesn't run the 100 or 200 Meters although those Gulf Coast schools are loaded in track. His Triple Jump of 44'8" would probably make him competitive at a Texas state level for Top 10 or so.

right-last year he finished 7th in the 300Meter Hurdles at the 3A Regional Track Meet with a time of 41.94 (and 41.72 in preliminaries). Btw Jagared Davis ran the 300 in the low 39s and had a 46 2 3/4 Triple Jump late in the season as a Senior in high school for comparison but times inevitably get better as track season goes on. (Not too shaby for a LB). The Triple Jump is easily Rhoades' best event.

TSU Relays-top competition from around the entire state of Texas-

Cedric Lancaster and Shelby Walker combined for 2 second place finishes in the 4 x 100 Meter Relay (42.44) and the 4 x 200 Meter Relay (1:27:89)

Looks like Braylon Hyder beat his career best in Discus by 7 feet at 135' 0" but only finished 13th in again a big field

Jesse Montgomery had 2 golds and a silver in relay races at the Jesse Hays Relays-apparently this was mostly a relay event:

4 x 100 Relay (1st-43.26)
4 x 400 Relay (2nd 3:28;19)
1600 Sprint Medley Relay (whatever that is) (1st 4;07:1)

This last Relay meet had what's called a Throwers(the "Big Boys") 4 x 100 Meters Relay event-those are always fun to watch. Margus Hunt might have won in such an event by 40 yards

Add track team way before baseball.

I love baseball. Wish I had gone that route rather than football. Had major league try out offers, etc. But I also attended SMU baseball games when we had a team and there were never more than 20-30 people there. What makes people think we could do better now. We had baseball when the Rangers started and baseball became the hot item in the metroplex. Still no one showed up. Many.many more people attended swim meets than baseball games. I just do not see why we should even consider baseball when history shows it would be just throwing money away.

Get us a men's track and field team and let's win some national championships and develop and recruit some football players who want to run track, put the shot, hurl the discus and jump the broads. Just as many fans will watch track as would baseball if the past is any example.
