David PevotoFor Your Information --
Emfinger's updated National Recruiting List calls Quarterback David Pevoto of Colleyville Heritage the "Quarterback Discovery of the Year." Pevoto is 6'4" and weighs 206. He now lists SMU, TCU, BYU and Texas.
Re: David PevotoBTW he is current Mustang Cal Peveto's brother-right?

Re: David PevotoStallion,
I am not sure but it sure stands to reason. I forgot to mention that he was rated a 4! 50's
Re: David PevotoI'm not sure if they're related. The SMU lineman is Caleb Peveto. Every list I've seen has this kid's last name spelled "Pevoto". Besides, he's at a different high school.
SMU! SMU! SMU!
Re: David PevotoIf they were related, he'd already be signed by now. I'll ask around over at Heritage and see if I can get some scoop. Although as I understand it, the player I was told we needed to got after (from Heritage) was Alan Davis.

Re: David PevotoWe can still try, but Davis verballed to OU. Wants to play for that Stoops dork. Bennett is the man.

Re: David PevotoO.K., here's the scouting report on Pevoto:
Most felt that Pevoto was easily Heritage's best QB last year, and many were unhappy that he didn't get the starting job or see significant playing time. Last year's starter, senior Cole Ford, was a good (not great) player who also was Heritage’s starting QB as a junior. As such, it would have been difficult for the coaching staff to demote a senior player who was the former starter. And I suppose it didn’t hurt that Ford was one of the assistant coaches’ kids. So even when Heritage was ahead, they kept Ford in (presumably) to pad his stats and make him a more appealing college prospect. Pevoto is big, tough, accurate, has a rocket of an arm (was compared favorably to Bartel’s arm) and can run. For a big guy, not only can he run, but he also has good moves to make defenders miss. He doesn’t fumble. When he gets popped, he hops back up ready to go again. Again, a real tough kid. Pevoto’s downside is that he rifles every ball. He tends to throw a 20-yd. curl route with the same velocity as a 70-yd. fly route. Although he invariably hits his receivers right on the numbers, sometimes they’re not up to the task of catching those bullets, which results in some dropped balls. The unfortunate aspect is that Heritage has graduated many of their standout linemen, which means that it’s going to be a tough year for Colleyville QBs. David’s parents would be “excited to death†to have him stay home and play for SMU. BTW, he’s definitely not related to SMU freshman Caleb Peveto. "It's a couple hundred million dollars. Remember that he's throwing to HS receivers, not college guys, who are more accustomed to catching major-league fastballs, so to speak. When John Elway and Brett Favre were rookies, their receivers complained that their hands hurt after catching heaters from those guys. I'd say those two panned out OK. The unfortunate aspect is that Heritage has graduated many of their standout linemen, which means that it’s going to be a tough year for Colleyville QBs.
Uh oh - I hope he survives the season. David’s parents would be “excited to death†to have him stay home and play for SMU ....
Then it's a done deal, right? He sounds like a perfect addition to the QB crew. Learn under Bartel and Wallis, then battle Meeks and Phillips - a competition among Div-IA caliber QBs can do nothing but inspire each to work harder, which in turn would do nothing but improve the offense. Have we offered him a scholarship yet? [This message has been edited by PonyFan (edited 08-15-2003).] "What kind of weirdo school are they running over there in Fort Worth?"

Re: David PevotoNo.
We never offered Allan Davis either, although from all accounts if OU offered he was going to go there all along. So it was probably a good move on the coaching staff's part to not tie up an early offer on someone who wasn't totally committed to coming here. Pevoto might be a really good one. I neglected to ask whether or not he attended any summer camps. I think Coach Ringo covers that territory. "It's a couple hundred million dollars. I'm not losing sleep over it." -- David Miller
Re: David PevotoEmfinger sure sounds high on the kid. Pevoto would be our best QB RECRUIT in years!
Re: David Pevotoa 4 on Emfinger's rating scale is not the same as on Rivals or the Insiders. Emfinger has him as a Super Sleeper but he isn't more highly regarded than either Freshman in this class. Bennett has said he will never be caught without a QB so I wouldn't be surprised if he took 1 QB in this class but he might wait until later in the recruiting season to analyze whether he should offer another QB. If both freshman readshirt and they keep Wallis at QB they might pass I would think on any QB recruit unless they prove to be outstanding. Peveto has to go out and prove himself on the field first I would think-although he put up some gaudy numbers in the State 7 on 7 tournament.

Re: David PevotoI wasn't suggesting that Emfinger and Rivals had similar scales. What information leads you to believe he is only as good as Meeks and Phillips? I don't remember them getting nearly as much press, especially so early in the season (and both of them started their Junior years).
Re: David PevotoI agree with Stallion here. Coach B has said many times he'd rather have too many good QBs than not enough. If Bartel stays healthy and plays all year, and we redshirt the freshmen, I would think a HS senior would have to be a complete stud, like a Rhett Bomar type, to get a scholarship, since this year's class of scholarships is smaller than most years. This guy sure looks good on paper, but like Stallion said, I bet they wait to see what he does on the field this fall before deciding whether to offer him.

Re: David PevotoOh I agree there for sure. Especially since the kid has thrown.. ONCE? What impresses me however, is the fact that he DID only threw once last year and he's garnering all this attention just from camps and the 7on7 tourney. Here's hopinh he has a breakout year and earns a scholarship (and signs with the ponies). Hopefully he stays under the radar, because we aren't getting a Rhett Bomar type if he's getting Rhett Bomar attention
