Sulphur Springs DT Jordan Jones (6-foot-0, 253, 4.9) -- a teammate of SMU commit Jonathan Lindley -- is listed as a 2-star guy on rivals.com. The site says he's considering Colorado, Colorado State, Iowa, Louisiana-Laf., SMU and TCU.

Anyone know more about him?

Nebraska was heckled a few years back when they signed a local DT named Jeremy Slechta, who skeptics said was a nice high school player but didn't have the size to play in college, especially at a big-time program like Nebraska. All Slechta did was get bigger and stronger and faster, earn all-Big 12 honors and end up getting drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles. He never became one of the 6'5" 310-pound guys that teams try to sign every year, but he did get up to about 6'3" and into the 280-290 range. But more than that, he took up residence in the NU weight room and became one of the strongest players in the country, and a guy who has the proverbial non-stop motor.

Jones is the same kind of guy. Some coaches will look at his height and say he can't knock down passes, and then look at his weight and say he can't get into the backfield because he doesn't have the strength to create a push on the interior of the line of scrimmage.

These are the same coaches who would say Allan Adami can't play. Jones is an Adami-type guy - tough as nails, relentless in pursuit and an incredibly hard worker. Maybe he won't grow much more, but if I'm a coach, he's well worth the risk. Look how Adami has turned out for the Mustangs - and he was only 220 when he signed. Jones is not without risk, but could be a real diamond in the rough.

So maybe we hold off on offering the guy, and wait to see how some other top-flight prospects react to an offer first?
