Who was taken this year? Do we have any schollies left to give? I rarely see any basketball recruititng news on this forum yet I hear news from other schools when a big stud commits.

you'll start hearing more this month since the fall signing period is usually at the end of October start of November.

SMU has just one senior, but still has the scholarship that Alex Craft gave up last spring when he transferred, so techinically there is one left. Some have speculated that Voc Atkins wont play his 5th year, and that could free up another scholarship, but that is just speculation.

SMU has one verbal commitment, from John Killen, a 6'4" guard from Arlington Martin. CPC wrote a brief scouting report on him last month, and you can read that post if you you scroll down to the next page. The mens team has had one other player in for an official visit, a foreign power forward that the coaches have a high opinion of, but you probably wouldnt find him in any of the recruiting databases.

Early signing day is Nov. 12th, and the early period lasts for one week.

If you are waiting to hear news about some big stud, you can stop waiting. The best players in Texas are already committed, or looking elsewhere.

The womens team has 5 scholarships this year, and has 3 commitments so far, all from players ranked in the top-15 in the state. They have had 4 others in for visits, and have offered scholarships to all 4, they will take the first 2 who commit. Three of the 4 who have been offered are Street and Smith honorable mention All-Americans, and all are from Texas.

OP, I think he is refering to a reply he posted under "Basketball Commitment" originally posted by Ponymon
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

OK, I can live without his name. How big is the guy, and can he move? Can he hold his own down low? Can he shoot 3s?

He was about 6'7"-6'8", yes he can hold his own down low. CPC watched him play pickup with the team when he came for his visit, he had a nice consistent jump shot from about 10 feet out, but he didnt take any 3s.

Jeremis Smith has no interest in SMU, he will probably be going out of state for college.

Just a quick update from the CPC. The men’s team had another recruit in for an official visit this weekend, but there isn’t a whole lot of information to pass on. He was around 6’7”, a power forward from Florida, but that’s about all CPC can tell you. Never seen him play, cant find anything about him in the recruiting sources, and now cant even remember his last name. Sorry folks.
Insiders confirm that SMU has been in pursuit of 2 JC players, O’Neal Mims (last address was Frank Phillips JC in Oklahoma, but now he’s sort of between schools……) and Isaac Hines at Collin County CC. Both of these guys need to graduate from Junior college before they can accept a scholarship to a D1A school, and in Mims case that appears to be a serious longshot. It may all be a moot point, though, SMU’s coaches feel they are in very good shape with Derrick Roberts, and if he commits that would take up the last currently available scholarship.

Sounds like Coach Crawford is definitely a Florida guy. Thats a fertile area and Pearson is already a good pickup, but I sure wish we would get strong in Dallas. As for Derrick Roberts wasn't he rumored to be leaning to the Froggies? That would be a good pickup for SMU.

Please forgive the ignorance here, but who's Roberts? How big, what position, what kind of numbers, etc.?

thanks

Roberts is a 6' 4" shooting guard. Tcu has committed another 6' 4" shooting guard from Ft Worth and is holding a ship for Kevin Langford. Only ones they have available.

Roberts can play

This is great news. Roberts would be a HUGE commitment. I had a chance to see him play last year. He is an ultra athletic combo guard who can finish, and finish with style. He has the ability to play the point or the 2 and is considered one of the best players in Texas. With Hop, Isham, Bennett, and Roberts that would be a scary backcourt for any opponent.

Paulius Ritter, the Lithuanian forward who visited SMU 2 weeks ago has now committed to the Mustangs. More info coming when CPC has time to type it all out.

I thought we only had one or two scholarships to give out, how are we getting all these commitments? Are they Jr's or something?
