Just heard Jake Spavital QB/P, Tulsa Union, 2 Star punter would come to SMU today, very interested in Cox School of Business. Average QB skills, but proven winner/leader, very intelligent, diamond in the rough punter 47yd ave., longest 72 yds on one bounce, with no coaching, kicks 60 field goals in practice goofing around.
Do we need another punter?

My guess is no. We're only going to have about 18 "ships" to play with this year. This kid sounds a lot like Ricky Joe Meeks – good athlete, decent QB, good punter – but with less Rivals stars.
Too many other needs to address. Personally, I want some of BUS's linemen.

He is the quarterback on one of the best high school teams in the nation, and a school where a bunch of players sign division 1-A scholarships every year. I heard his dad was a coach there as well. I would think he would be on the "maybe" list but I agree with needing more lineman and BIG receivers. Let's get Demacho Ousley in Tulsa!

Ousley would be a huge signing, as would several of his teammates, including the 6'6" WR across from him (Quinton Chaney), although I think Chaney's out of reach. I hear we're still in the running for Ousley.
From what I've read, Spavital is being recruited almost exclusively as a punter.

With the Williams connection at Tulsa Washington that usually will go a long way to Ousley. Also, SMU would do good to leverage their connections in Tulsa, our DS Simmonds is a cousin to Tulsa Union's head coach and AD. SMU has not used that relationship to recruit out of the Union and Jenks programs. Your right Union is a consistant national top 15 program that sign a lot of D1 scholarships.
