Some players show early promise and never pan out. Leander defensive end Michael Epley showed so much potential early on that he made his varsity team as a freshman ... and kept improving each season. Now the anchor of the Leander defense, Epley visited with PonyFans.com to explain his high school performance, his relationship with SMU assistant coach Eric Daniels and how he ended up choosing SMU.

Playing early at a tiny high school, where the top guys end up playing all the time at multiple positions, is one thing. Playing varsity as a freshman at a strong 4A school like Leander is something else altogether.
