Originally a 3-star LB who committed to Portland state. reportedly runs a 4.6, so pretty good wheels.

So we've got the Nate and Portland State (JJ's alma mater) connection.

Welcome Daniel

He had offers from AFA and Yale out of HS - seems under recruited if he really was the 6th best player in the state - and he was a defensive MVP of his league.

Turning down Yale to attend a JUCO for a year - he must really want to play quality, D1 football. If I had a scholarship offer from Yale (in anything), I think it would have been hard to turn down.

Welcome Daniel!!

I'm certainly not an expert on recruiting, and I know we've gotten some good players out of Oregon during June's tenure, but I did live in Oregon for 5 years and I would say being the 6th best player in Oregon is a little bit different than being No. 6 in Texas. UO and OSU stunk for ages while having their pick of the top talent in Oregon every year. When I lived up there, they were both at the bottom of the Pac-10. They had to stock up on California talent to turn the corner at those programs.

Just for kicks, I looked at the 2013 rosters for University of Oregon and Oregon State.

U of O has approximately 100 kids currently listed on the roster. There are 21 Oregon kids and 41 California kids. 7 Texans as well, which I found interesting.

OSU is showing 20 Oregon kids on its roster and 46 California kids.

Now that being said, I don't mean to imply that Daniel Halverson isn't a quality pickup. June has brought in some pretty solid "under the radar" talent from Oregon (including Kenneth Acker, who is one of the best, if not the best athlete on the team). My guess is that Daniel will be a good player for us.

Halverson said. “I talked to Mason afterwards, and I told him if you’re offering, I’m committing so I’m really excited about this opportunity.”

I wonder if Halverson may have gotten the wrong impression of an offer actually being extended by Coach Mason. "If" could go either way.

Is anyone else curios as to why as supposed 3 star prospect had to REDSHIRT at Portland State and then transfer to a JUCO? Maybe there's a reason he only had offers from Air Force and Yale....

I hope he works out will for us, but man, it's just kind of weird
