Did I mis-read something?

Postby Dark Horse » Sat Nov 15, 2003 11:10 am

Saturday's DMN says that DeSoto OL/DL Elris Anyaibe committed to Georgia Tech over "interest from" Baylor, Arkansas, Kansas, Kansas State and Oklahoma State. Excuse me? Where was SMU on that list? Kid's in our back yard. He has expressed an interest in us! He's an all-district lineman on BOTH sides of the ball - could play OL or DT for us. He could contribute on either side of the ball, probably, and was drawing interest from some pretty big-time schools. (Oh yeah - hey BUS: he's a big guy, too. Around 6-3 or 6-4, and 280 or so.)

If he's headed to Georgia Tech, he could have qualified academically for SMU admission. And I know the coaches have their wish list, so maybe they were going to wait before offering a scholarship, but the note in the DMN makes it sound like we didn't even know he was down there. Recruiting Guru, Stallion -- SOMEONE -- clear this up?

unfortunately he was one of the several top prospects who attended the SMU/OSU game-honestly he probably preferred playing for a competitive football program-he had plenty of options to play at better football programs. If SMU ever does even out the playing field you will see a lot more of these kids commit who hesitate to go to a school where there are obvious questions about the school's commitment. It may not happen the first year and it might not happen the second year but I have no doubt that SMU can get its share of the top DFW kids once they do.
