You seem to know the local recruiting scene pretty good. I know his name has been brought up over and over and shot down, but there was an article about the youngest of the Thornton brothers, the wr at st. marks, in rivals in the past few days. He really hasn't gotten any offers, but says UT is still his leader. I suppose he will walk on. Have we attempted to recruit him at all. If he's not getting offers, maybe because he's considered a UT lock but sounds like a solid player, why don't we throw a $100,000 free education at a school right down the block in his face.

I'm not really familiar with the situation and was just asking. I doubt UT will offer him, considering they've already signed 250 receivers in this class. Especially if they think they can still get him without using a scholie.

Maybe because his bro's went to UT, he is above attending SMU.

he's a top prospect. Others may assume he is a lock to UT. BTW I'm a graduate of St. Mark's and read that article too. He'll get some major offers before its thru but I too was a little surprised.

Kenton Thornton very much wants to play both football and basketball. UT likes him in football (and probably assumes an edge, with his brothers there), but the basketball office in Austin has shown little to no interest -- hence his interest in Cal and Colorado State, which have told him he can play both.

I would only assume we would tell him the same thing. But I don't think we're on his radar.

If we landed a two sport (basketball/football) player similar to Charlie Ward, would he coulnt against our football or basketball scholarship limit?

It is completely up to the coaches. I would imagine that you would want him to take a football scholarship, because there are many more of those and limited basketball ones.

The problem that arises is Dement and Bennett would have to have a mutual agreement on how he would be treated and not allow the two sports to conflict too much. I doubt any football coach isn't thrilled when one of their players misses spring practice because of BB. And I'm sure no basketball coach is thrilled when one of their players can't play until Dec. or Jan. and is not in basketball shape. But it has happened before.

I'm pretty sure Arkansas just signed a player in a similar situation, Marcus Monk. He's the top hoops player in that state, and around the sixth best football player. He committed to the football team so the basketball team would have more scholarships to hand out.

I believe there is a NCAA rule that a football scholarship player can play other sports but a non-football scholarship player CAN'T play football. This was put in place because Bear Bryant used to recruit players beyond his 95 (what was the total back then) scholarship limit and just give them "swimming" or "track" scholarships instead.
