any commitments coming??...

we haven't gotten any verbals in awhile. Now that the season is over, will recruiting ratchet up?

Well yeah, but the coaches are going out on the road now to meet with players. And Coach Bennett is, we assume, working on hiring a new offensive coordinator. So while the coaches are going out on the road now, they're working to close deals. I would assume we'll start to see some trickle in within a few weeks.

We have 10 accounted for, only 8 to give.

I would say that Devin Lowery qualifies as a new verbal. He was only formally announced last week.

Ten? I can only think of 7. Who all are they?

Names escape me, but if you add our Air Force Transfer DB who will be on scholarship next year, our Texas Tech Transfer RB who will be on scholarship next year, and walkon redshirt freshman DL Pryor who will be on shcolarship next year, you get 10.

Also, if you add a JuCO QB, you get down to 7 scholarships remaining for incoming freshmen.

Pays to go to the coach's breakfasts, or read this site. Take your pick.

...and not one lineman other than a TE and a walkon DL.

That's just an invitation for BUS to step in now.

That's true, but the coaches do know how to evaluate talent. The TE is a very good prospect, and based on a year's worth of practice, the outlook for Pryor is very, very good. Many observers think he could be an extremely special player.

hey I agree we need to sign some more lineman-but we have a signed a lot of OLM in the last two years. Remember OLM usually have 5 years after a redshirt unless you sign JUCOs. We don't need to overload on LM this year just sign quality. With linemen you got to think 2-3 years down the line because they shouldn't hit the field until their junior year or redshirt sophmore year.

Surely you meant 4 years after a redshirt.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

I agree with Stallion. We have plenty of young linemen. However, if we can get a JUCO lineman on two (RT, C), it would be much appriciated.

This is my take on the situation:
- We have 18 scholarships to give this year.
- 3 go to the transfers and Pryor (RB, CB, DE)
- 7 already given: RB, FB, 2 WR, TE, CB, Ath
- 8 left:
- JUCO QB
- WR
- 2 OL
- 2 DL
- 1 S
- 1 LB

If we cannot find JUCO OL to bring in, I could see us using one of the OL 'ships on another saftey. But with the numbers of secondary players we have brought in the last couple of years, I don't see us using a lot back there.

I think it is a lock that we will pick up a JUCO QB, a WR and at least one player on the OL and DL. Beyond that though, I have a feeling we will go out and get the best players available, regardless of position.

Because of the low number of ships we have left to give, I don't think you will see us lock people in until the end of the recruiting season. So you might not hear about committs for a while. I don't foresee us using a ship on a RB that only has offers from Tulsa and other WAC schools at this time. We will wait and try to get more sought after players up until the end. I also don't think you will see us lock the QB or WR in until after Bennett has hired his new OC. At that time, we will use the name hired to recruit us higher quality players.

I agree with Stallion that we need quality over quantity, but until the current linemen prove themselves, we should bolster the troops, I think. I can't really foresee ever being a situation where we say "Jeez, we just have too many of those 6'6" 320-pounders."
