According to TheInsiders.com, Burnet OL Edwin Rollman (6-4, 285, 5.4) has scheduled an official visit to SMU for the weekend of January 9. He has a visit set for December 19 at Kansas and January 19 at Arkansas.
He claims medium interest in SMU, Arkansas, Purdue and Kansas, and low interest in Arizona, Georgia Tech, Houston and Tulane. He has offers from all eight schools.

impressive list of offers. Good size too. Definitely need him and a couple more like him on the O line.

There seem to be a bunch of guys looking at SMU and Kansas this year - are they making new inroads or have we dropped a notch?

Hoop Fan makes a good point about the list of offers this guy has received. I admit that 5.4 in the 40 doesn't exactly make me drool, but it sounds like this guy has a lot of ability, because it looks like there are a ton of coaches who like him. Sounds like a nice addition for the offensive line! And like you said, HF, let's grab a few more just like him.
As for Kansas, I don't know that recruiting against KU equates to dropping a notch. If anything, it signals their improvement. Last year, for the first time in ages, we recruited against some big boys and got some name players to SMU. But Kansas underwent something of a rebirth this year, becoming bowl eligible for the first time since John Riggins and Gayle Sayers played there (well, not really, but you see my point). They've always been able to sell their larger stadium, their national opponents, their conference, etc., even when their team has struggled, and therefore have always had some good players up there. Not enough to compete against the Nebraskas and Oklahomas of the world, but some good players have gone through KU. And coach Mark Mangino has said he wants to expand his recruiting base -- his team's performance this year has allowed him to do that. There is absolultely no shame in recruiting against Kansas. There's even less shame in signing the players KU wants!
Go get 'em, coaches!

Rivals currently has Kansas' class at #43 (a big improvement for them) and SMU at #59. Clearly Kansas is raising their bar.

At this stage of the game, rankings mean little, if anything, other than something for the fanatic alums to argue over. Those numbers will matter when the players have been on campus for 2 or 3 years.

It'll only be meaningful when all the dust settles and the recruiting classes are finalized. Obviously, the point totals are going to be a bit skewed when you're comparing schools like LSU and UT who have already filled up their classes (or are close to the limit with 17 commits a piece) and SMU (who Rivals is reporting to have 6 commits).

I think this class can't be fairly assessed until 2006.
(And based on that list, USC is going to destroy everyone. Let's see if that holds true a few years from now when all of this year's recruits are on the field.)

Rollman, according to Rivals, apparently enjoyed his visit to SMU alot. He liked the players, the city, and the facilities. His next visit is to Arizona, which he rates higher now because of Mike Stoops, their new coach. By the way, his scholarship offer to Kansas was also pulled, because of their decision to give their remaining scholarships to defensive players.

Man, how nice would it be if both Rollman AND Ribitzki fell into our laps? Couple them with Kyle Griffin, and suddenly you have the OLs and a DL that we've all been clamoring for. I'm not ready to assume anything, but it would be nice, especially since both of these OLs are BIG guys.
