Andrew Armstrong is a DB/WR from Tulsa (Holland Hall), Okla. I know he plays against private school competition, but he's 6-3, 195 and runs a sub-4.4. He's a multi-sport athlete who excels in basketball, soccer, and track.

Statistics:
- Senior - 110 tackles, 3 sacks, 4 interceptions, 3 fumbles caused and 3 fumble recoveries. As a wide receiver, he had 11 catches for 269 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also had 5 kickoff returns for 135 yards.

- Junior - He had 65 tackles, 7 int's (3 for TD's), and 7 fumble recoveries.

Has interest in SMU, Tulsa, Air Force, Rice, Army, Harvard, Nebraska and Boise State. No offers yet.

I would guess that maybe we're focusing on Texas kids?

But man, that guy sounds appealing. How about a 6-3 CB? And you know with that soccer and basketball in his background, he probably has real good footwork. I would think based on the info here, he's got to be worth a look.

did he camp anywhere? a guy that plays at a private school or against lesser competition needs to get out and show what he can do. If he didn't camp anywhere, could be one of those "diamonds in the rough". I would expect Tulsa to know something about him with his playing in their backyard.

This could turn out to be a Kalen Thornton-type success after making the private-to-Div. I jump. Or he could be the next Vance Smith (the much-heralded QB who went from Fort Worth Christian to Texas A&M and did absolutely nothing.) But that size and speed sure should make the coaches take a good look.

If he really is that tall, and if he really runs a 4.4 (or faster, of course), I'd think he's got to be worth a look. A long look. I know scholarships are limited, but those are the numbers of a real prize recruit.

I spent a weekend watching Holland Hall play Cascia Hall and Armstrong wasn't the best athlete on the field. A WR/LB from Cascia Hall, the name escapes me, but he wore number 86, seemed to be the type of sleeper you are alluding to. Good size, speed, athleticism, but judging on that level is difficult. However, we had a RB this year play 2A, and he was a pretty good player.

I rarely see Oklahoma kids play -- I spend my time watching Texas kids. But I have heard about Armstrong. According to my sources, he absolutely looks the part -- he's big and fast. However, in addition to the questions about the level of competition he faces each week, he also has a reputation for playing a bit stiff. He runs a little upright, and I'm told he doesn't have great flexibility in his hips and torso, which allows a player to turn and adjust to a ball in mid-flight. Maybe a project or walk-on candidate.
